900rr output shaft seal leaking..anyone ever change one??

I have a '98 900rr and one of the carb vent hoses got caught up behind the front sprocket and took the seal out. Is there an easy way to fix or replace the seal without splitting the case on the motor??

unfortunately, no. There's a lip on the seal that fits into the cases. I have seen a few guys cut the lip of the seal off, install it and then use a punch to expand the aluminum around the seal, however, it was always done on older bikes, never on a 900RR. Good luck.

You have to split the cases to change that seal? WTF. Who designed that stupid ****.

Every bike ive owned you can work it out from the outside. I'm doin the one on my dirtbike right now.

I hope so, It looks like a huge job to get to the seal....I might try grinding the lip off if there is one..anything to avoid all that work.
