Front sprocket, Difficult?

I looked, but did not see any threads like this....

I am going down one on the front sprocket. I was just wondering if anyone has done this themselves and if their are any tricks or tips for putting it on...

And if anyone lives in Georgia, I am always looking to ride with someone.

Re: Front sprocket, Difficult?

very very simple, u might not even have to loosen your chain, simply take the sprocket cover off, undo the nut that's on the sprocket, and swap her out, and tighten her back up, be gentle not to over torque it because you can break the copper fitting that registers your speed, should take no longer than like 15 mins

Re: Front sprocket, Difficult?

Cool! Thanks... the local shop wanted $65! I will definately do it myself.

What about the rear sprocket, I hear it is actually harder.

Re: Front sprocket, Difficult?

it's easy, just need a stand to put the bike on, take the rear tire off, and take off 5 bolts, and replace, then reverse the process

Re: Front sprocket, Difficult?

dont take the wheel off before you loosen the sprocket nut! Use the rear brake to hold it in place while you turn the nut. If its the first time the nuts been touched its going to be real tight.

"dont take the wheel off before you loosen the sprocket nut!"

+1. that's the best tip ever.

If you have some friend that has adjusted chain or something, ask him to come to help. It usually helps to have some mental backup when doing things for the first time.

Sometimes getting the nut off is a pain but I agree with Jonny Leave the rear wheel on so you can break the nut loose. I only had problems once, I just used a half inch drive impact gun to get it off. Other than that,,, it's a piece of cake.

Re: Front sprocket, Difficult?

if you take the rear wheel down/putting new rear sprocket, be cautious to center the wheel when putting it back or you might have nasty wobbles while riding wheelie...

Re: Front sprocket, Difficult?

save yourself a lot of trouble and have the shop do it. They have to use an impact to take the nut off, and to put it back on. There is a bendover tab that is easy to damage. If you dont have a badass impact, dont even try it.
