front end shakes while braking

i don't think its my rotors, i just got new pads (mix n matched on accident, HH and GG ) and was wondering what you guys think i should check??

i've heard someone say head bearings? i think they are in the triple tree?

i got a hyperpro dampener that works great, the only time it ever shakes is when i get on the front brakes

Re: front end shakes while braking

Mine was caused by the front wheel being warped.

rotors..had a similar problem, but to be certain put a flat head screw drive against the fork tubes and rest the tip on the rotors and spin the wheel if they don't vary back and forth off the driver then you have made certain that it isn't the rotor.

Rotors. They get damaged from a ice cold stab on the brakes, or being hit (MD3058RS, MD3058LS parts unlimited, any bike shop can order them for you)

they are $199.95 a piece and be carefull when removing and installing, because the bolts can break off, or if your not using a allen socket, you could damage the bolt.

Cool Re: front end shakes while braking

they say its the rotor but if you stunt it's possible that your head stock nut is loose. it under your top triple clamp. theres not hurt in trying because it dosent cost 200 bucks.

Re: front end shakes while braking

Another big cause for shake is a bad front tire...

I'd say bent rotor, bad tire, or headbearing. tire is cheapest to try. tightening the head bearing is free.

Re: front end shakes while braking

awesome, thanks for the info guys...there's a good chance that's the issue because i'm 1/3 thru my second rear diablo on the same front tire that the first set came with, so its rockin over 5k probably by now...but the tread wasn't missing at all so i didn't think that would really need replacinG??

i will try the flat head screwdriver trick, and if its not the rotors then i'm gonna trade wheels with my buddy's 03 6 and see if that gets rid of the wobble...if so its definately the tire...if not then it's that head nut

thanks for all the help guys, really didn't want to end up bringing into a shop

Re: front end shakes while braking

i did the screwdriver thing and i couldn't notice any movement in the tip of the driver at all...i have a new tire in the mail will be here next week - in the meantime i will try the headnut but i'm nervous to mess something up in the triple tree, never taken that apart before

i know with cars you can bring rotors to a shop to have them resurfaced...is there any way if i took my rotors to a shop they'd be able to tell if they need to be replaced/resurfaced?

i guess if the tire doesn't fix it i'll just replace the rotors as well, pain in the butt tho if they didn't even need it :\
