learning rear brake control?

I have a hell of a time trying to learn rear brake while in a wheelie. If I think about using it before a wheelie. i can hit it but if i pull a wheelie to far back I can't seem to remember to use it. I always wind up taping the front brake. I think this came from riding BMX at the skateparks for five years. so I keep thinking that is the rear brake.
I can ride out standups and sitdowns in 1st and 2nd., I got the throttle control on lock but I want to slow them down and keep them at one speed. Also pretty much got the BP on lock also.
How did everyone go about learning to use the rear brake other than looping a couple times?

I was excatly at the same point at the beginning of this summer. I did everything to remember the brake, mental training, I was rockin in a chair and thinking now this is going to fall over, brake... when I was driving my car and braking, I thought bike falling slowly back. Then I just drove, drove, drove, before every wheelie I slow the bike down with the back brake, then clutch and bring it down with the brake.

Also I had lot of problems with too big/solid boots, I changed to sport shoes and I got more feel, Then just drive everyday, brake all the time, at the start to get primitive brake control, but soon you get more feel and you can start to slow it down.

It seemed impossible to me too, you just to have to make the braking a part of wheelies, start them up by slowing down with brake, pick up and brake down. I used to pick up and brake them down, even if they didn't come up that much.

If you can get close to BP, just go there and brake it down. Do that until you get it.

now after couple of months I can slow them down. And the feel is getting better.

Two very good points. When I have my Timberlands on I have a harder time with my rear brake. I am not that confident yet also but sneakers give you a better feel.

My boy beat me in the head with "tap the brake before you go up so you know it's on the brake". Then get to BP and bring it down.

You will get the feel in no time. I can rock woolies for a while but am working hard on slowing them down.

Re: learning rear brake control?

uhhh ur not close to bp if ur not already at a constant speed, or sowing it down with jsut the throttle....go higher, apply pressure to the brake when ur at or a lil below bp , then give it mreo gas and go as high as u want...

Re: learning rear brake control?

when I was learning I used the rear brake for everything slowin , stoppin, playin with it ... it keeps it fresh in your head and trains you subcontiously. just like you subcontiously go for the hand brake. worked for me.

oh I'm sorry i guess the thread isn't that clear. I used to ride BMX (on a BMX bike the rear brake is controled with your hand either on left or right side depending on what you like.) So on one wheel on a BMX I'm used to pulling a lever due to that there is no foot brake. i have no problem using the rear foot brake for any use other than up on one wheel. So you are correct, in one way that I do not have the experience using rear foot brake while on one wheel on a MOTORCYCLE. that is what the meaning of this thread is you fu(kin douche bag. If I had the experience using rear foot brake to control a wheelie I wouldn't be asking for advise would I? But anyway thanks for pointing out the meaning of the thread to those who also are not smart enough to figure it out and didn't want to say anything.

Once again I do not think the rear brake is on the clip on! I know where the rear brake is. and I never" hit the front brake and hold it in attempt to put the wheel down, I tap it and then say "see why can't I get my foot to do that?" I never said I'm the top stunter in town, I been riding street bikes three years but only ****in around with wheelies and **** for a few months. so yeah I guess I need more time on one wheel, that is why I am asking advice to get better. Then you come out talking like your the best stunt rider to ever walk the planet. You probly used to ask yourself these same questions and then go cry because you can't use the brake. I don't cry I just ask advice to further advance my skills or lack there of skills. how ever you want to look at it. but please don't call me names it hurts my fealings I must go cry now

i am the best! go cry now... you want to talk **** but cant take it when given?

if you know where the rear brake is then tell your dumbshit brain>to tell your dumbshit foot>to press the brake? if you cant understand that.... then go back to your pedals. run along now junior

squid or not when you talk **** that what makes this site suck, dam people when people ask for advice give it to them you dont need to give them sh*t we're all here to ride and have fun for those of you that are more skilled then most pass that advice along so the "squids" you talk down on so much wont be squids any longer then they need to be

Re: learning rear brake control?

can you read tim? did i call him a douchebag im my post? i simply stated that if he cant figure out that the rear brake, goes under your right foot, that he hasnt spent enough time on a bike. but maybe your a dumbshit like him? maybe you should put a pillow case on your head and go play in traffic? or maybe you should just learn to read and shut your mouth.

I find it a bit hard to believe u got throttle control and BP on lock if your not even touching the brake yet on a 12!--throttle and BP control on a 12 compared to a fast wheelie are like apples and oranges.

Looping/coming back past BP trains you to 12--thats basically what a 12 is--on the line of looping. After looping it about 10-15 times your head tells your foot to ease into the brake because you know how much it sucks to loop out of control. Then you'll be 12ing like cake. JMO!!

Re: learning rear brake control?

i happened to get a 50 but it wasnt really a huge help. somwtimes cruising around town in 2nd i would stay steady on gas and press and let go of the brake to get a feel of teh sound the motor made and to get a feel of how hard i needed to press. everyoen looked ta me weird but it helped. once you can clucth it up and stay smooth on the wheelie just say to yourself back brake and hit it. eventually it will be 2nd nature
