i think i stripped my 954 block where cage goes!!

well i have an FI cage. i pancaked the bike and the bolt on the right side pulled out cause when i took teh bent bolt out it had some aluminum coil around it aka the actual thread. made me so so pissed, i coudl care less about my new paint or fairings.

anyways i stuck a tap in there and it went it smooth. so i took another bolt out of my box o **** and it fit in there nicely

there was only like 1/4" length of thread on the bolt that pulled outand i believe that it was at the beginning of the hole (thank goodness).

so then i go to tighten the left side which has never been down and teh bolt is ****ing spinning. wtf?

im gonna try and tap that

but what are worst case scenarios here?

i think im gonna use loc tite this time cause the slider bolts were loose im guessing from engine vibration

Re: i think i stripped my 954 block where cage goes!!

same thing happened to my 954. you might have to drill it out a little bigger and tap it for a larger sized bolt. Use loctite and make sure its tight. check it often. if its not tight enough, it will happen again.

Re: i think i stripped my 954 block where cage goes!!

the loop goes below the bike, so when right side hits ground, the force goes to the left side bolt too. threads are probably gone.

Re: i think i stripped my 954 block where cage goes!!

i just got longer bolts with nuts. i took my cage off the other day and re-tapped my motor mount bolt holes and put sliders on with stock bolts. well today i was riding and put my foot on one of my sliders and that **** is spinning and loose as hell, no drops or wrecks since i re-tapped it

Re: i think i stripped my 954 block where cage goes!!

i've never had a problem with mine getting loose. I put never sieze on them because I was worried about the opposite happening and having the steel bolts sieze in the aluminum block of the engine. I hit mine hard enough to bend one of those black grade 8 hardened bolts and it didn't do a thing to my motor mounts or engine. Seems like people have different experiences I guess. I just put it together and then tighten it pretty good after a little short ride like 15 mins. Then I put a socket in there every few weeks and make sure but I don't seem to ever get any slack out of them.

I got a friend that dropped his 1000RR and the right side stripped out and he has to order a new engine bolt, and fix up his cage. I feel bad. Shouldve gone with the 905.

Re: i think i stripped my 954 block where cage goes!!

i dont blame teh FI cage. i blame myself for not using loc tite. any cage at a pancake fall would have broken like this.

i just got raped at auto zone for $60 for a helicoil kit 10x1.25 double teh price since its fine thread, ****!

ill let you guys know how it goes

no its not locktite that will stop bolts from ripping out motor mounts. i have NEVER had a mount rip out on any of my customers. i will explain why your mounts ripped out if you send me a PM. its physics of the cage, not locktite.

Re: i think i stripped my 954 block where cage goes!!

no matter what cage, the bike was going forward combined with a pancake fall (entire bike in mid air) i think any cage would have either bent of the bolt. it was a dumb hard fall.

ive gone thru a powers and this FI. frankly its the fall, no cage is bullet proof. threads stripped out im guessing because of being loose. i think next time im going to stud this *****

same thing happened to my FI cage the right side is all loose. what are you guys doing to fix it? rethread to the next biggest bolt size then use that bolt?

the worst come to worst you have to install a helicoil so you can mount it up

I wouldn't call that a worst case scenario. That's the best thing to do. It's stronger than normal.

Re: i think i stripped my 954 block where cage goes!!

My threads came out and I just used a longer bolt--when those threads rip out I'll put yet a longer bolt in and then a nut on the back side.

that nut is going to be inside the engine :O:

it threads into the head. so you can't put a nut on the back. do you have a 954

Re: i think i stripped my 954 block where cage goes!!

yes i have a 954

bought a helicoil kit from NAPA so imma get my swerve on tomorrow. gonan try and prep the hole nice. maybe use some red loctite for the helicoil.

THIS IS THE PROBLEM!!!!

i have a powers bolt on one side 12.9 and a FI bolt on teh other side 10.9.

i only seemed to rip out MOST o fthe beginnning threads. so solution is going to be to use a longer bolt that actually grabs all of the threads

Re: i think i stripped my 954 block where cage goes!!

don't use too long bolt, if it bottoms, it's gonna destroy the threads.

i wont use TOO long a bolt. just enough to use liek 85% of teh threads in there i wouldnt want it within lets say closer than 3-4 threads to the end.
