anyway to temporarily patch a radiator?

Came down off a wheelie and the front tire kicked up a rock right into the radiator, the hole if very small, big enough to spray coolant onto the front tire though. Anybody know if there's a way to temporarily patch a radiator for a week or two until i get a new one?

I know and egg will plug the hole, but it's temp, and i have NO CLUE what it could do to your engine. it could ddo nothing tot he engine, or it could destroy it I've got no clue, but i've seen it work on cars.

Re: anyway to temporarily patch a radiator?

I got some shiat from Walmart for like 4 bux. Stop leak or some shiat.. you just pour it into the rad. It'll fix pinhole leaks quickly. Then it will gunk up your whole rad / overflow bottle with shiat that looks like thick soup. I though my whole system was garbage. BUT! I flushed it out with a hose and it cleaned out all the gunk and the hole in my rad stayed plugged. Kinda messy, but if you flush it enough, your rad will be fixed... Mines been good for a couple of months now with no overheating or anything. Just get the gunk out after it seals the hole and before you ride because it will overheat with it in. Cheap fix and you don't have to buy a new rad.

Re: anyway to temporarily patch a radiator?

duct tape works on everything...just don't expect it to last. Use the putty and replace the radiator when you can.

EXACTLY, its called PERMATEX GAS TANK AND RADIATOR REPAIR Comes in a blue package. If i were you i would drain the radiator and make sure you know where the hole is. Make sure the area is totally dry and put that stuff on it. It dries in like 2 hrs and you can fill it up and use it. Mine has been done for like 3 months now and it works great.

Re: anyway to temporarily patch a radiator?

I used JB weld--then once the JB dried, I gooped the spot up with High strength super glue--the stuff that comes in a syringe that you have to mix up. Plugged it like a CHARM.

Re: anyway to temporarily patch a radiator?

The stuff you want is called All-Steel. We used it on a crack in Shocker Andy's cylinder block(in the water jacket, straight water froze and cracked it) on his F4i two winters ago and it's still going strong. The key is to make sure it's clean and dry. Use a small wire brush and brake cleaner then knead the stuff together and press it in place about an inch around the hole. Should be golden.

Re: anyway to temporarily patch a radiator?

you could always two part epoxy it. Thats what some radiator shop did to fix my dirtbike radiator. Worked like a charm. Kinda more liquid than JB stick or those other alternatives, so it kinda seeps into the fins instead of sticking on the outside of them.
