Buying a Welder...

...And not one of the cheapo Sears/Home Depot models--I'm talking about a Miller series TIG--but I've been given 3 different views on which one to purchase and 3 different prices because they make a whole slew of different types (multiprocess, syncrowave, dynastar, etc).

I see Millers on ebay for at least 5-600 dollars cheaper than my local welding equipment shop...wtf? Prices have been 1,500-2,500 dollars. Does anybody have any ideas in here? Its a lot of money to spend and I want to make sure I buy exactly what I need. (To be able to weld aluminum and steel)

Synrowave 180sd will be poifect. It's a good machine, and has stick capabilities (if ya ever need it). Does good on aluminum and steel. We use the syncro 250's, and the lincoln idealarc's at school, and I really like them. No one ever uses the lincoln, which is weird, since it's actually one of the best welders there IMO. Once I get the dough, I plan on picking up a 180sd.

This has everything you need, but the tank. You will probably have to get some tungsten too. 3/32" 2% thoriated tungsten will take care of your steel needs, and 3/32" pure (or 1% zirconiated) tungsten will take care of your aluminum needs. You might also want 1/16" of the same tungsten, with a collet to match, for really thing metal.

MILLER DYNASTY 200 tig/stick- aluminum, steel, cmoly, stainless.

mulitiple power sources- 3 phase, single, 220 etc. all you have to do is supply the connector. 3500 with everything, torch, regulator, tungsten, etc.

make sure you get an auto darkening mask, its vital. dont get the cheap one, do it right the first time or you will just spen more cash later.
