Shipping an engine off !

Which companies are the cheapest to ship a motor through? How are you guys packing them? What does a motor weigh?

I'm shippping a gsxr1000 motor, and someone had told me it should run about 175, but when i get quote from Fedex or fowardair, they're telling me 350'ish.

Any help would be great!

Thanks,
Derek

Re: Shipping an engine off !

Go to a dealership in your area and ask them how the bikes and what not get delivered to them. If their not a bunch of ****** they should let you use that company to ship your stuff and you can try to get them to let you use their discounted shipping rates and then you slip em a couple dollars for doing it.

All they gotta do is say that you can ship it from there. Just make sure you put the motor on a crate and wrap it corectly, that way the dealer doesn't have to do anything but put it on the truck when it comes or you could even wait around and put it on the truck yourself. Explain that to them so they don't think you want them to package it and ship it for you.

That's how I ship stuff, really saves you a lot of money.

get an old pallet...put an old tire on it....drop the motor on the tire then wrap it up with some saran wrap
