More Carb Problems
More Carb Problems
Alright, In my previous post i had problems with the carbs running gas outa the overflow tubes. That problem is solved thanks to the local honda shop. They said all they did was swap the floats from one carb to the other and sealed it back up and there was no problem. Said it could have been somethin just inside the needle valve. Thats about all the information i got.
Well i got them on the bike now and they dont leak. BUT now my bike boggs down real bad and has a lower sounding tone to it. Its like one of my carbs isnt getting enough gas or not flowing properly. Power seems to be the same, but when i take off from stop lights it boggs down really bad and i gotta give it way more gas then usual. It doesnt seem to bogg at all when im gettin on the gas hard (power is still fine like i said). But at idel or normal cruising speed its got a "delayed" feel to it and the exahust tone is much lower and sounds kinda choked out.
I just took it all down again to the carb's and made sure my choke was connected properly which it is like i thought... so now im out of ideas.
Is this a plugged jet? or something like that? When we took them apart on thur. we took the jet and other thing (dunno what it is) out and niether of them were clogged.
I hope someone can help me

Re: More Carb Problems
Oh boy.... So how do i go about resync'in the carbs? because that sounds like my best bet as to what the problem is.
Im new to these bike engines but have experience in workin with car engines so i appologize for the newbie questions.
Thanks

Re: More Carb Problems
Hold up! Couple of thing you HAVE to look at.
Is your airbox on or are you trying to ride it without the airbox. It will not run right with the airbox removed.
I bet your oil has a bunch of fuel in it.
You probly fouled your plugs with the fuel problem
Install Airbox
Check Oil for Fuel, change if your oil level is high
Change plugs
Quit throwing tools around the garage.

Re: More Carb Problems
Thanks alot Schwartz.hopin to hear from you in one of my posts cause you have proved your knowledge about these engines in past posts.
Im not running it without the air box, i actually ran it without the air box after re-adjusting my choke cable and it seemed to run better. Now that the air box is back on it runs just like it did befor all bogged down and not "smoothe". Once i get some free time ill get new plugs/oil filter/oil and change that all out.

Re: More Carb Problems
Just check your pilot system out. Sounds like your getting too much gas at once when you throttle it. Less gas = less bogging down. You can try raising or lowering your needle depending on how lean or how rich you want your mixture to be. Had the same exact problem with one of my dirtbikes, although that might be a little different story.

Well the problem isnt when i get on the gas it boggs down... when i get on the gas its perfectly fine and sounds almost normal. Its when i start from lights, or just am trying to ride a constant speed (4-5000 RPMS) it sounds all bogged down and stutters alittle (not much at all) thats why it seems like the carbs are outa sync or its not gettin ENOUGH gas to one carb.

Re: More Carb Problems
the carbs are out of sync. even if you hadnt done anything to your bike, with time they get out of wack. the mercury sticks are about 40 for a cheap set, take you less than an hour
Re: More Carb Problems
Ok so synchronize the carbs and like i said, check the pilot system. A few screws out on the pilot screw will give it a lil more. But it sounds to me like your gettin too much gas. If it were too little gas then it would have trouble on the top end not just off the start. I'd take it to a shop to have your carbs checked out unless you really know what your doing. Hope ya get it fixed.
Re: More Carb Problems
Yea, and that's what he's describing his problem. And it effects up to 1/4 throttle. But your probably right on the fact that if it hasn't been touched for a long time and all of a sudden you have problems that's probably not it. Who knows. Like i said, better off asking a professional rather than taking the risk of making it worse.

yeah its definatly running rich, i talked to a few of the riders that work at the honda shop today when i was riding with them and they told me fouled plugs/sync the carbs. Told me to just bring it in and have them do it (much less of a pain in the ***) but didnt like the estimated cost of 150 bux (BUMMER) esspeaically when i JUST started a job and am in the whole money wise.
Now i ask... How bad is it for the bike riding it like this?? I hate not being able to ride and it'll kill me not being able to so early in the season. But if its goin to cause more damage to the bike i can live with not riding. If it doesnt hurt it at all to be running it like this then **** imma ride that bish. She still wheelies just fine

Re: More Carb Problems
since its running so rich there is probly gonna be alot of raw fuel leaking down to the oil pan. The gas thins the oil out which wears **** down quicker. (gasoline is a poor lubricant). If you want to chip in on the cost of a mercury synchonizer , we can pick one up
Re: More Carb Problems
Run it while your saving up the money to put it in the shop. It wont hurt it that bad if you don't ride it for a long time. The o-rings will just have a lot of wear on them, depending on how long and how hard you ride it. You should be good, just get it in the shop just to be safe.

Blaa Blaaa Blaaa
Re: More Carb Problems
Ive been running it and it seems to be either staying the same or gettin worse lol. I havnt been givin it any slack though... i gotta wheelie and im also in the process of teachin my girlfriend to ride so shes learning on my bike even though its not runnin normal... she was able to get it goin and ride fine though so props to her hah.
Re: More Carb Problems
yeah man, like schwartz said, since he is the one that has been helping me, get new plugs, but before riding witht the new plugs in for a chance of fouling them again, sync the carbs. once all that is done make sure you are running an airfilter and have not taken anything off of the airbox. on the front of the airbox there are two little tubes like ram air tubes. i didnt put mine back in, rode my bike, ran like ****. decieded to try and put them back in, viola **** ran alot better.
