DAMN F4i :(
DAMN F4i :(
k i need some help from all you mechanics and f4i riders. I have just replaced my Rectifier(voltage regulator) Stator, ,Battery, and the Starter. My bike wont seem to wanna keep starting, I know that the battery is charging but once i shut it off it doesnt seem to have enough to turn it over again. It only happens when the bike is hott, if i let it cool off then it starts ok. I checked all my grounds, battery cables, fuses..... I cant seem to figure this out. It's hella frustrating and im missing alot of practice time. Oh yeah, it will start if i push start it.
help me out guys
and we hooked a voltage tester to it while running and it's cranking at 9.5

Y isnt there a heat shield already, you have one? oooh just trade me bikes and i'll keep my plastics. Your getting that 900rr anyways.

But what are the possibilities? this is gettin real old, I cant even stunt without having to push start my bike everytime i turn it off or stall.
Re: DAMN F4i :(
The Test For Stator Output Is Done At 5k Rpms. It Should Be Charging @ At Least 13.0 Volts. If It Is Charging You Can Rule Out The Stator Unless It Has A Short To Ground. If The Output Test Is Good Then Do A Resistance Check Between The 3 Wires( 1 To 2, 2 To 3, 3 To 1). Spec Is .1-1.0 Ohms. Then Check Continuity From Each Of The Wires To Ground, There Should Be No Continuity, If There Is Then The Stator Is Bad. Regulator: Red/white And Ground= Battery Voltage Should Be The Reading. Yellow And Yellow= .1-1.0 Ohms. Ground Line Test Is Green And Ground= Continuity Should Exist. Recheck The Easy Stuff Like Battery Test Under A Load. If I Had To Guess I Would Say The Reg/rect, Take It Off The Subframe And Look At The Back Of It, If It Is Burnt Or Has Even The Slightest Pin Hole Then Its Bad, Good Luck
Re: DAMN F4i :(
RYAN's right but **** that 5k ****.
just do these test with a multi-meter............
check battery OFF = 12v+
check battery IDLING = 12.5v+
check battery @ ANYTHING above idle = 12.5v+ (by the time you reach 3k it should be over 13v+)
make sure your reg/reg has a good ground
is your starter relay making a "CLICKING" noise when you hit the starter button ? if not then it could be going bad and causeing problems. next time it happens jump the two posts on the starter relay and see if it cranks over. if so then you have a bad starter relay or a problem between your starter button and the relay.
good luck

Keep in mind that i ONLY have this problem when the bike is HOTT Re: DAMN F4i :(

It just does the ol rrrrrr rrrrrrr rrrrrr then slows to a stop but no clicking, almost as if the starter wasnt strong enough to turn the motor over

What are the chances though, i changed it out 2 times. Chances that both starters were garbage = My Bad Luck One starter came off a bike with only 3,000 miles on it.
Re: DAMN F4i :(
well seeing that you got 2 f4i`s it shouldnt be that hard to figure out start trading parts. maybe battery cables? do a voltage drop test
it does sound like a starter though even though you changed it out, i like these threads its kinda like a good mystery novel or somthing

yo team is it a charging problem or a starting problem, when its hard to start check the voltage to the battery if its not 12.8 volts its not fully charged and you got a charging problem if its fully charged and is hard to start you got a starting problem and you need to start out by doing some simple voltage drop test.
