Re: crack in my frame.

i'd say try welding it one more time. put some support braces on it. i had a 900 frame with like 30 cracks in it. eventually you'll have to buy a new one but milk it as long as you can unless you have the money

Re: crack in my frame.

Grind off the old welds, re-weld fresh clean welds as strong as possible (you could even add support plates), then get the whole frame heat treated. Your going to have to take it to a specialist but it should be good as new. When you keep welding the frame you change the properties of the alloy and it actually makes it weaker from the heat. You might want to double check the type of filler rod your using too.

Check out the pricing, it might be cheaper/less time consuming for sure to just buy new. Or... just milk it, and hopefully it won't come back to kick your *** when it does break.

Re: crack in my frame.

agree with hop kid.....DO NOT HALF *** THOSE WELDS!! do it right and use support braces if you don't get a new frame right away. have someone do it that knows what they are doing. that frame i refered to earlier broke when i came down from a 12 and the motor fell out. if i was going fast it probably would have killed me.

I agree with this guy as well!!!!!
the welds don't look as good as they could be......remove all the previous weld, find a decent tig welder and let him do what he does best!!!!!! when you have a toothache, you go to the dentist,
when you have metal problem, go to the welder
checking the filler rod and the flux if you are doing it yourself is a great idea

Re: crack in my frame.

I'm not sure if this would work, but an easy solution would be to drill a hole at the end of the cracks to stop them from spreading. One of my buddies' dads has an airplane and when they inspect it, if there are slight stress fractures on the wings they drill a hole at the end of the crack to avoid spreading.

Re: crack in my frame.

it looks like you just welded over the crack which is why its not fixed. gring the old one off and then grind a v in the frame where the crack is. fill the v with your weld, and then weld a plate over the top of it
