yzf600r some problems

i rebuilt my whole bike and replaced 2nd and 6th gear, 2 forks, and the shift drum. installed a factory pro shift kit. and rebuilt the whole thing, motor is in and runs, but after it starts to warm up. i get the oil light....

there is plenty of oil in there so im assuming im not getting enough pressure, what is teh best way to test this and what methods of elimination can o go thru to see what is causing this? thanks!

Re: yzf600r some problems

That sucks...
You gotta put a pressure gauge on where the sending unit is for the oil light,
Im pretty sure that motor needs like 38 lbs at idle and should come up with the revs, if it dose great, no worries just a bad sending unit, but if it dosent, Your gonna have to pull that **** apart again and see whats going on in there, mabe a bad oil pump, did you replace any of the rod or main bearings??
If you did, Which color did you use??
If you didnt, did you put the old ones back exactly where they came from?
Dose it run good?
How about the temp??
Dose it get hot??

i didnt swap any bearings, im not sure where the oil pressure sending unit is, it has "oil level switch" in the pan.

it runs good i took it around the block, but when it starts to heat up, the oil light comes on.

Re: yzf600r some problems

im pretty sure i would have smoked it by now if it wasnt getting pressure...

the only dumb thing i did is washed the pan with the oil level sensor in the pan in my parts washer, but i figured that would be alright since it sits in oil all day.

could mineral spirits have damaged my oil level switch?

Re: yzf600r some problems

Its very possible for the mineral spirits to damage the sensor.. RARE but possible. You would have to check the resistance of it when it gets hot to know. (spec in book)
But to me, your sayin when it gets hot thats when the light comes on, that makes sense somewhere the tolerances swell up, is the valvetrain noisy at all, when the light comes on?? I dont rremember exactly where there is an oil port to check the pressure on that engine. It would be in the book for sure.
It would be worth it to find out and run that test...

i cant even find where in the manual the oil pressure sensor is... :-(

Re: yzf600r some problems

Ok, If it is getting noisy when the light comes on then it is pretty safe to assume your pressure is really dropping and not a faulty sending unit. But before you go pulling that thing out, let me give a holla to my boy tomorrow, he shoud be able to tell me where you can tap into the oil pressure just to know for sure.
If you look on the side of the case under the clutch cover, there is no plugs there I thought there was but its been a while?
