Up in second

Yes, its me, the dick who started the epic thread about power wheelies a few weeks ago well, ive changed my mind. While i still dont mind powering my bike up in first, clutching is way easier and more consistant. I worked on clutching first up staggered today and i love it!!! Comes up so easy, and i get it up way faster, but heres my question. How do I get it up in second. I am trying staggered, i do a double bounce and clutch it, I think it maybe came up an inch, and that was the best one, How the hell do i get second gear up there??? its an 04 r6 thats down 1 in the front. help me. IM still workn on getting to BP, and i know i should stick to frst, but i feel i know the rear brake well enough to go ahead and pull her up in second. PLease help me!!!!!

Re: Up in second

if you have throttle control. then just give her a little bounce on the front and as you do pull in the clutch romp on the gas and pop the clutch. Oh yeah!! dont forget to cover the brake. I assume this is a stand up wheelie.

Re: Up in second

it takes a harder clutching of the bike
you need more gas and a faster clutch action.
it also helps to really bounce the pegs.
good luck and cover the brake

Re: Up in second

I've got an 05 R6 and I'm in the same boat as you.

I finally got 1st gear clutch wheelies down pretty well, but not well enough to find my BP yet. I'm wanting to do some second gear wheelies now, but I haven't really got close yet. I need to find a place with more room.... Hmm...I-85 is pretty long and straight. :-P

Seriously though, hurry back and let us know what worked for you.

Re: Up in second

On another note, after wheelieing for several hours yesterday, my left ring finger is bruised and a little swollen from tagging it with the clutch. Does this happen to anyone else?????

yes, after doing slower wheelies for 30 minutes or more we wrists start hurting a little but you'll get use to it. have you got any calouses (sp)... the first month of really riding wheelies will break your hands in.

good luck... cover the brake!

Re: Up in second

probably around 35-40 MPH for second, bounce that shiz off the rev limiter she'll come up. Thats what i have to do with my F2 but your R6 is quite a bit lighter. Dont depend on your gauges. Use how the bike sounds makes it alot easier, and cover that brake

Re: Up in second

really easy if you already feel good in first :YEAH after shifting out of first, and now in second gear, slip the end of the clutch meaning from being fully out to pulling just enough to stop pulling the bike forward. as you slip the clutch back out give it a good shot of gas but make sure to cover the rear brake because it will be no time until it floats up in second with hardly any reved throttle or eexcessive clutch slipping. you really just want to rip it up quick to balance then throttle and rear brake will keep you hanging for miles :YEAH :YEAH

Re: Up in second

also left foot on rear pass peg and right over rear brake will allow you to pick the bike up w/out being whipped backwards so you'll have more control and be able to play with height more!

I guess i need hold the clutch in longer to get more revs like Novaman said! I'll be at it again tommorrow. Oh yeah, i am going to try to get some ootage soon, beacause im gettin close to BP FINALLY AND YES NOVAMAN, WHEN IT COMES TO POWER WHEELIES, YOU WERE RIGHT . MY APOLOGIES THANKS FOR THE ADVICE

Re: Up in second

At this elevation you're gonna have to really clutch the **** out of that bike bounce and most importantly pull up when you clutch it so you're actually pulling the bike up since it really doesn't have enough power to come up on its own, that's how I do it on my 954 in 3rd. Beware though there really is no engine braking so once you get it up it's gonna loop real quick if you're not careful.

Re: Up in second

02 f4i -1 a while ago i cud bring it up in 3rd staggered off the throttle. anyways on that bike when u try and clutch up 2nd u shud be goin about 60, 2nd wud be for the highway. if u try and clutch it up any slower than that it might bog, until u get better. then u can clutch in 3rd from like 40. i kon my buddy on an 01 r6 did.

Re: Up in second

Yeah my 954 will come up in 3rd at 40 if I try hard enough but the lack of engine braking scares the **** out of me. I feel much more confident in first gear even if it is "twitchy".

Re: Up in second

I am getting over the twitchiness, i am good enough to save my *** with the brake, i just want to be able to wheelie faster and carry it longer. First gear at 20 mph is getting boring! I want to expand my horizons

Re: Up in second

I have stock gearing on my f4i and i can bring her up in 2nd doing like 70mph if i want. You can vary your speed depending on how fast you wanna ride your wheelie.
