Keepin the old F4izo Cool
Keepin the old F4izo Cool
I know I'm not the only one who's F4i runs a lil warm. Hook me up with some tips. I will be doing mostly parking lot shyt next season. In Stop and go Traffic my Shyt would get up to about 230 this past year. I already have my fan rigged with a switch so I can manually turn it on. Is that sufficiant enough. I have heard people say put another fan on. Would that mess with the charging of my battery? Would it be better to get a bigger radiator? If anyone have ever ran a bigger radiator what bike did they get it from? Any help would be
.

my 929 used to run hot. i flushed the radiator with super clean stuff to get out all the deposits and i use Engine Ice. It's a radiator fluid that keeps the bike cool. works great. i run it in all my race bikes.
also, me and my friends that ride f4i's notice that if you drag out an oil change the bike tends to run hot, so change the oil definately at 3k miles.

Definately get yourself a dual fan set-up. Run them independantly so you can turn them on as needed. Definately flush your cooling system and replace your radiator cap and your thermostat as well, spending a couple bucks on preventative maintnance is well worth. Most people don't realize your oil has cooling properties as well as water and anti-freeze, keeping fresh oil in the bike should help cool the engine as well.
Re: Keepin the old F4izo Cool
Thanks for the help fellas. I try to stay on top of the oil changes, but I know I could do better. Should I purchase another F4i fan or is another type that would serve my purpose better?
Re: Keepin the old F4izo Cool
Ive Got One Fan That Stays On Constantly And The Other Operates Normally. The Engine Ice Works Good Too. Ive Also Got The Header Wrap That The Dirt Bike Riders Use. Wrap It Up To The Top And That Will Keep The Heat Away From The Head.
Re: Keepin the old F4izo Cool
Using a metal fan as opposed to a plastic fan will help circulate more air as well. Muzzy makes these aluminum fans for almost all of the newer bikes that is a direct replacement for the stock plastic one. Any fan will work as long as there is enough clearance between the headers and radiator. Remember measure twice buy once.
Re: Keepin the old F4izo Cool
here's the bad fact on adding another fan: it'll draw more current therefore pulling more from your stator and over-working your rectifier. honda's tend to kill recitifiers to begin with and you start loading them like this and they fry and usually take a couple things with them. It also eats up batteries too.
I would just do everything else first before putting another fan on. that's preventative maintenance in itself.

Re: Keepin the old F4izo Cool
Everybodys car does it alot more than people think, when its hot out and your in the stop in go but you dont know it cause well your inside
so just keep up the maintence, and if it gets too hot take a break.
