all honda's are in the rear (except for 93-95 900rr) so you do'nt have to worry. run 1/2-1 quart over.

Re: 02 F4I Oil Level / Pick Up

thats a really good question.....

Binder, if the pick-up is in the rear, why does my oil light go on when the bike is running on the bar?

to be exact yes, it's not all the way to the rear.

and it turns on when it's on the bar because that's an extreme angle. i run about 3/4 quart over and my light never comes on when im' on the bar anymore.

i usually add an extra 1/2 quart....next time i change my oil i'll add and exta 1/4 and see if it makes a difference. i was always good at math.

that awesome that the light doesn't come on. I always fill it to the top of the oil eye glass.

Is putting that much oil is the bike harmful?

Re: 02 F4I Oil Level / Pick Up

yep.. on the f4i, all you have to do is turn the pickup around 180 degrees and it will be back as far as it can possibly go.

The reason the oil light comes on on the bar is not because of the oil pickup position. It doesnt matter if the pickup points to the back on any bike. The oil light will still come on on the bar because unless you are overfilling a shitload all the oil runs into the back of the crankcase/transmission. There is a way to fix it. And its easy.

i usually leave mine on the sidestand and fill it just to where i can see the oil. that's somewhere around 3/4 quart over and i've never had the light come on (since i've started doing that).

some people will say that it harms the bike because of excess pressure, that is bullshit. all you are doing is reducing the volume of air in the cases by filling it with oil. now if you fill it to the point where the cases are completely full then oil will be getting sucked up by the crank and causing extra pressure.....but that's like putting a shitload of oil in it. I have never had a problem with any of the bikes that i run extra oil in.
