Learning the rear brake while doing slow wheelies

I'm getting pretty good at slow wheelies on my f2, I'm not riding them out that long yet but that doesn't matter to me as long as they come up. I am having a problem learning the rear brake. It seems like every time I'm ready to use it I've already let off the throttle so it'd be pointless to add rear brake.

I'm finally getting it up to where I can keep a steady speed and even slow it down a little bit, what should I practice so I learn to use the rear brake, or do I even have to for first gear if I'm not trying to 12 and I have -1 +12 gearing..

Re: Learning the rear brake while doing slow wheelies

practice by clutchin the bike up and catching it in BP with the rear break instead of rollin off the throttle.

And maybe bring your RPM's up to 3-4k because if your letting all the way off throttle and your commin back down your not in BP if your idel is high, cause 3-4k should carry you just off idel and using the rear break. Get your 12 bar on there... you will scrape that tail.

Re: Learning the rear brake while doing slow wheelies

just do what i told you...clear your mind and set your mind on landing with the brake to get used to hitting it. catching it at the BP is a bad idea if your not 100% sure you'll catch it...

The thing is I've never gotten into a situation where engine brake hasn't saved me.

Re: Learning the rear brake while doing slow wheelies

Try doing a wheelie going a little faster than normal and ease the rear brake on the way up
once you get the hang of it the bike should slow down and stay pretty high

cuz your wheelies arnt high enough to need something more than engine brake to land..

Re: Learning the rear brake while doing slow wheelies

i ride the brake once i pass maybe the 45 degree mark up.. first bunch of times the bike will fall back down but you will get a feel for it.. as soon asi t starts to get light lightly rub it.. theres been times i fallen back a bit and mashed the brake... and brought it down.. as for hitting that spot where engine brake wont work, faster your going it seems to be harder not to have foward momentum bring ya back.. but i recently was in a parking lot trying to get the bike on idle.. snaping it up hard with the clutch, 3500rpm idle on my gixer 750, and well, say after like 5 tries i got it to get into the idle a bit, this is the first time working with high idle, and well the one time the idle took over smashed the bar and instead of me being on the brake my body's reaction was to put my feet down and well it got all wobbly and i just threw the bike.. good thing for the FI cage.. and the bar, cause nothing really happened to the bike at all.. cept a scuff on the mirror. That happened to me 2 times lol.. Such a wierd feeling when it falls back to hit the bar, like the first drop on a roller coaster.

Re: Learning the rear brake while doing slow wheelies

yeah once u hit the coaster point u kinda lock up lol. just remember u don't gotta completely bail off the bike. u can jump off with ur feet but swing that bitch arround by the bars 180% and hit that kill switch as soon as the front wheel hits the ground.

Re: Learning the rear brake while doing slow wheelies

I have some video, it's pretty shitty and the wheelie sucks, its night time and it was my first of the day so pretty much its shitty as hell. I don't know if I'll post it I plan on going out tomorrow morning and getting some daylight footage.

I'm still learning and when Im idling around between 12 atttempts, I find that relaxing helps a LOT. I'll also talk to myself in my helmet--"I wont panic" and "relax". I clear my mind and tell myself to quit being a p*ssy and just DO IT!!!! --this helps me out a lot. Thinking about the trick just gets me aggravated.

yeah, when i think about it too hard i end up not making a good wheelie or almost crashing..your best bet is clearing your mind and just try instead of forcing yourself

Re: Learning the rear brake while doing slow wheelies

Ride around town or whereever as if you dont even have front brakes. Concentrate only on the rear. This will make you think about it more and you get the feel for it when you do slow stuff. Theres no feeling like a coaster but if you have no 12 bar or you dont know your rear brake the say bye bye bike and hello pavement. I cant really coast far but i am glad i know my break and sometimes i get saved by the bar. here is a decent picture. if you go to the web site. www.trickybehaviors.com in the gallery. under stunts its the 2nd picture. Its a pretty decent picture of me at a coaster point. i cant figure out how to link it to this post.

Re: Learning the rear brake while doing slow wheelies

ride around have fun.. when you get stressed out.. take a break, when ya stress and get pissed your gonna **** up try to hard and crash.. gotta have fun relax and go with flow. don't rush t, it'll come with time and practice , took me awhile but i'm getting it more and more, i finally after about 3 sessions learned to park the bike and also am now at the point of slowing it down so the idle keeps the bike going in the wheely and not me , so just practice have fun

Re: Learning the rear brake while doing slow wheelies

I'm about to go ride. The thing that I always do thats bad is I go out and try to take video my first attempts so I end up not getting a feel for the bike that day and just trying to go as hard as I can. I'm gonna go practice for about 15 minutes then take some video once I'm comfortable and I'll post it up.

Re: Learning the rear brake while doing slow wheelies

definitely tuff.. i scraped 4 times in the parking lot, 1st one ever i froze and i parked the 12 :-\ .. then the 2nd i hit and the bike wobbled like crazy hopped off did the bike on the hip spin around to bring it back down, and then the 3rd and forth time i got such a bad wobble i couldnt hold the bike running behind it so i just let if fall over from 12 oclock lol... thank god for that FI cage.. That coasting point definitely freezes me up every time.. except on the road doing 2nd gear or whatever.. i can push it into that area without a problem.. It seems parking lot slow idle area snap ups the bike doesnt wanna fall back foward.. it wants to fall backwards.. this is the only reason i reocmmend the bar for learning. i had a bar on for like 2 months before i hit it.. and when i hit it.. if it wasnt there the bike woulda been laying on my chest with a snapped subframe lol..

Re: Learning the rear brake while doing slow wheelies

Screw the subframe--I just would'nt want my heavy *** bike on top of me after looping it. I looped and hit the bar--at least hitting the bar kicks the bike anywhere but on top of you-just remember to let go of that bitch if it gets hairy after hitting.

Re: Learning the rear brake while doing slow wheelies

Turn the idle up to 4 grand, drop your tire pressure to 10lbs and whack the throttle. You wont want to keep this as a habit, but it will get you rocking slow and not "chasing the idle". Basically, once you get it, start bumping the idle down and increasing air pressure.

You'll be rocking the F2 in no time and getting everyone off your back!
