1st or 2nd
1st or 2nd
Now that I'm consistently hitting BP in both 1st and 2nd gear what do you suggest I start using to ride them out? I have been riding out 1st gear sit downs fairly long but I want to start doing standups. I realize 1st gear might be a bit twitchier but that also means engine brake, and I'll be going a lot slower so if I do crash it won't be as bad. I'm kinda leaning towards 1st gear but I'm interested in what your opinions are.
Re: 1st or 2nd
I'd do 1st just because it's slower, and once you get over twitchyness you'll have more throttle control than before and will be a better rider because of it.
I however would recomend using 4th gear, since you said in another post you're getting that to come up (don't know HOW at those altitudes, didn't you figure out you only had like 67 horsepower with the 954, and it weighed 100 pounds more because of the altitude?)

Rpm's are low enough to just cruise at 40-70 which I assume is what you want.

Re: 1st or 2nd
1st and 2nd,i learned in 1st which taught me great throttle control.then when i geared my bike 3rd gear was easy minus less engine brake...which only took me a few wheelies to learn to cover the brake haha

Yeah, I think I'll just hold off on the wheelies til I get my stunt bike so I don't loop this one. I'll practice 2nd gear standups when I have something crunchy.

Re: 1st or 2nd
don't worry about 2nd gear stand ups there a cake walk .much easier than sit downs i think.the hardest part to get use to is loking over the bike at first it's a little scary but after the 4 or 5 wheelie you will be a pro since you can hit bp on sit downs you will have no problems :YEAH
Do a couple till u get use to it then hit the rear brake a couple of times just so you know what it feels like.
Just because you cover the brake does'nt mean you can use it. practise practise

You know that's easier said than done. Re: 1st or 2nd
I would say 2nd. There's still plenty of engine braking. I never use the back brake. You can also come up very high in second and do it smooth. Once you get used to the height and gain some throttle control, you'll have a lot more confidence for first gear. Just my .02

Re: 1st or 2nd
1st is twitchy but thats all ive learned wheelies in because 2nd i couldnt ever get up till recently (said this a million times, but bad clutch) 2nd is incredibly smoothe compared to first, i had one today that i brought up and just rolled off the throttle perfectly and i cant even do that in first yet, it was crazy how smooth it was.
I cant hold sit downs in 1st but my standups in 1st are pretty much on lock for the most part they just keep gettin farther and farther now. 1st comes up much faster and your goin much slower so id say stick to 1st gear and cover the break. I cover it but dont use it and havnt looped yet Engine break has always saved my ***. Now if i was in 2nd it'd be a different story i garentee it.

Don't forget to check the earths circumference in relation to the angle of the sun to the equator. If they line up, then 2nd gear. If they don't, use 1st. If it is a holiday (excluding easter, halloween and every 6th ash wednesday) then use 3rd at altitudes greater than 2000ft, but not more than 5000 ft. or any number of feet divisable by 65.4 that equals an odd number.
Follow those few easy steps, and your DVD will hit the stunt world harder than a mullet bearing husband hits his wife!!!
