Slow Wheelies. How Long To Master?
Slow Wheelies. How Long To Master?
Hey all,
Been reading up on 12's and slow wheelies. My setup is a '99 Honda 250. Bigger sprocket in the back. Don't know by how much exactly.
In anycase, I have a tight schedule so I only get to go out every once in a while. So far it's all accumulated to around 3hrs of practice. And I'm still not getting it. I either don't come up, or out of now where I come up too fast and I freak out cause it's new to me and slam it back to the ground.
So I'm just curious. How long did it take most of you guys to get this? And I'm figuring it might take longer for me, since when I let go of the throttle and try to bring it up again, I get nothing. This engine isn't forgiving. It can barely bring this bike up as it is.
Below is the video. Let me know if you guys have any pointers, I'd appreciate any help that I could get. In the last part I bring it up and get freaked out so I let go of the throttle. My quick ties don't hold up and the front light breaks off. I've also managed to ruin both my front fork seals. Is this something I should be getting used to, and how bad is it? Should I get them fixed right away? Also of note. This bike has low seating for me. Should I increase it, or is bringing it up easier when it's lower? I've lowered it since my wife is learning to ride on this.

Re: Slow Wheelies. How Long To Master?
Went out again today, got some serious blisters on my hands. Even with the gloves on. Seems like I'm bringing it up better than the other days. But still having that fear of flipping over when I have lots to go. I'm hoping that if I keep bringing them up over and over, I'll slowly get used to that height and know I can push harder and higher.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a rear handbrake setup on that? If not you should not be removing your right foot from the brake. If you go to far past twelve the ponly way to bring it back is with that rear brake, which you can't hit because your foot is on the rear peg.
That and if you want them slow you need to go much higher
Good luck.

I can't put my foot on the brake and bring it up, it just doesn't move. I don't know why, maybe it's the 250cc, or I just suck at it. I found it close to impossible. I imagine it would be a lot smoother to bring up staggered. I'm thinking of putting a 12 bar and that should help me bring up easier staggered.
