converting my zx6r to sportbike... where to begin?

need some advice from the experts guys...

this bike is a lot of fun but... i'm tryin to make it a lot more fun.

07 zx6r pretty much stock.. 2bros slip on and jumper mod other than that no perf. upgrades

prolly gonna start w/a cage, leaning towards 905 for now and also a sprocket stock i think is 43 thinking bout going up to a 47 or 50, a lot of people are telling me to use the 520 also but none of the people sayin that stunt.

anyway i've seen that newbie thread for converting bikes but that's just a part list trying to see what recomendations all you guys got for me?? handlbars sprocket cage etc where to start

thanks
joe

Re: converting my zx6r to sportbike... where to begin?

FIrst off dont buy a 905 cage.. Either go SI CAGE,ATOWN,TIGER SHARK, second ur gonna need a sub cage i would say go AMR, ur gonna need a handbrake once u learn foot brake so i would say FTI new dual quad set up, along with steel braided lines, also ur gonna need a a 12 bar..

Re: converting my zx6r to sportbike... where to begin?

i personally would go with a sickinnovations cage... flip your stock clip ons... OMR sub cage and a hohey dual caliper handbrake set up... the sprockets are really just personal prefference... i would keep it around 10 up if u plan on actually street riding it... and i would just stay with the 525 on the pitch for the chain... round bars ans subframes are good to have and what not but there not extreamly needed and there not cheap...... i would def start out with a cage, some light gearing, fliped clip ons and a good handbrake set up... you can get all the other stuff as u progress and need it

Re: converting my zx6r to sportbike... where to begin?

i dont have a pix of my clips ons like i thought i did... but what i mean by flipped clip ons is put the left one on the right side and the right one on the left side and flip them upside down so that they are angled up not down.. this puts u in a way better riding postion

If you snap a 520 chain youre doing something wrong. I've run 520 on every one of my 12 bikes since 03 and never had one fail.

+1... the only shity part about 520 pitch set-ups are the sprockets are thinner... and if your running a alum rear and you dont maintain your slack properly they will wear out faster

yah i learned that with my very first bike. wore out my rear sprocket in like 4k miles cuz i didnt take care of my ****. keep your chain clean and keep the slack properly adjusted and they last a long time.

not saying chains are unbreakable but with regular maintenance the chances are extremely slim. it's likelly his chain that broke was old, no chain lasts forever and should be replaced when you wear out your sprockets. reusing any chain on new sprockets and all sorts of other **** really damages your chain.
