whats the down side of lowering floats
whats the down side of lowering floats
its the f2 again, was fixing to sell it but one of you brofalactics told me to lower my float levels, great idea but has it been a proven method to work. if its adjusted to stay open while at a horizontal pitch whats that do for it while im on two wheel or when the bikes off will fuel just keep pouring out. im just curious if its gonna work before rip my carbs apart
Re: whats the down side of lowering floats
i cant offer any advice on this sorry, but im wondering if you could tell me how you did your clean air mod? Also interested in the carb needle issue as its something ill have to do for my F3 i think
Re: whats the down side of lowering floats
if you lower the floats there will be less gas in the bowl. so not as much will be able to leak when on one wheel. when on two wheels if you are wide open throttle for a while, might not be enough gas in the bowl to keep up with the motor. it will feel like its running out till you let off then it will fill back up and be ok.

Re: whats the down side of lowering floats
my floats are all plastic i cant mod them without heatin them up and seems a little crazy but im all about crazy im figuring a way right now with no float mod just a fat super weak spring between the floats i let you know it works seems to be the deal though
Re: whats the down side of lowering floats
i never personally lowered the floats on an f2 but i find it hard to believe there is no way to lower them with out actually changing the shape of the floats , when the floats go up they close the needle and seat stopping the gas from entering the bowl so what you want to do is make the needle and seat close sooner ..
is there not a metal tab that close the needle ? if so you could probably just bend the tab if there isnt a metal tab maybe you could put some thing between the needle and floats to lower the floats or if teh whole needle and seat screws into the body of the carb just add a spacer between the need and carb ..
and what the hell is a ''brofalactic'' ? ..lol

Re: whats the down side of lowering floats
and from reading your post im worried you may be going the wrong way , lowering your float level means your floats will close the needle and seat with less gas in the bowl , the gas enters the bowl through the needle and seat and the floats close the needle and seat when the gas in the bowl lifts the floats so want to make your adjustment so the needle and seat will close when the floats are at a lower level ..
you need to make them all even too so measure each of them to make sure al your float levels are the same ..

Re: whats the down side of lowering floats
i had a 900 rr and it use to pour gas out in the lot. so i tried to lower the float but on the 900 the floats are not adjustable. so it would die out after 20 secounds or so. it was fine unless your in the lot. evryone told me to buy new floats but never did. i sold the bike and moved on to fuel injection
Re: whats the down side of lowering floats
not sure if it was for the 900rr or not but i i know i have seen carburetor relocation kits before , they tip the carburetor up so it would be in a better position during a wheelie
