Just started small wheelies

Hey guys,
I know I don't post up much but I am kind of a lurker because I am noob to stunting. I post mostly on r6-forum.com.
I just started bringing the front end up, maybe about 6-8 inches, in first gear. I cannot for the life of me bring it up in second. I don't know if I am just not pushing it enough or what. I have heard that the 2009 R6's lack on the low end power. In first I can slip the clutch around 8k and get up the front, but not much.
Any advice for me? I have read the stickies and tried them out. I am thinking about doing a -1/+2 gear swap to help on the low end power.
Just for technical sake, I drive a 2009 YZF-R6 and I am a small guy measuring 5'9" and weighing about 115 lbs. I think my technique just sucks.
Thanks everyone.

Re: Just started small wheelies

I'm sure technique and gearing sucks in your case , going up -1/+2 isn't going to do it on that bike unfortunately. If you cant find people that actually do stunt, I suggest buying videos then reading the garbage people post on here.

Re: Just started small wheelies

that r6 wil have no problem coming up in 2nd.. Ive ridden my brothers 08 R6 several times, and yeah the R6 like the revs high but im 200lbs and 6ft.. it will power up with me on it with no clutch in 2nd... any bike will wheelie, its 99% rider... I was convinced back in 94 that my CBR F2 would never do a wheelie. yeah, then i actually learned how to ride..

it is all rider. its hard at first but it just starts to click.

I just tell you how I learned and what I did right and wrong but I’m by far from good. But I think I’m making progress. I did go down 2 in the front but you won’t have to at all. I started power wheeling about year and a half ago and man that sucked it cracks up so fast in stock gearing I could never hold it up way to crazy.

So I tried to clutch it over and over. At first it was stand up, roll, drop the clutch about 20mph. and it would only work half the time the other half of the time my tire would slip . Then Click I would get on the throttle right before I pull in the clutch and the RRRRRAP it worked. In first gear I gave it about half throttle and I would pull in the clutch and it would rev up I would let it back out again. And I would do the same thing but give it more gas every time. But I was only getting up to about 10-11 clock. Than I would put it back down because I’m a pu**sy. Than I would try to bring it up more and I would get tire slip again .

That problem was due to my body position I was way too far forward. Like my helmet was almost above the head light. I fixed that problem I leand back and put my weight on my back leg that was on the passenger peg and bam I got traction. Because all my weight was on my arms.

Than I would get up and I would get the swirly really bad. And not be able to hold it up and I noticed as I come up and I’m still crouched really badly. I learned that after bring it down and my knee hit the cage f***ing hard. So now I tell myself ever time stand up as it comes up. And I’m really smooth on the way up and I can get to 12 o’clock but I still have a problem holding it there. Most of the time I’m at 11 and a half so close but the throttle is so sensitive. It’s like the front end of the bike is weightless. And any type of throttle movement make a huge difference. And I try to use the brake to do minor changes but it happens so fast I still have a problem.

You’re not going to learn it in a month unless you out there every day and working hard. and start small one day brig it up a foot and then 2 feet. When you’re bored 2 feet move on.

On that note that’s what I’m doing. And I think I’m getting better. And its working and I haven’t crashed yet. But what would help is go out with good stunters and chill with them I got nobody in nova.
Good luck and its scary so just go slow and you will get it. And then keep trying.

Hopes this helps like I said I’m not that good far from it I still have a lot of way but this is what working for me to get a little bit closer to BP. anybody in nova hit me up. thats my

I may just rock my F2 to the grave

I was convinced 3 yrs ago my F2 wouldnt do slow wheelies without being geared +18. Got used to that gearing and now my +7 is cake to do idel wheelies with. Its all about technique and repatition. Oh yeah and crashing a few times to find balance point best of luck to ya!

Re: Just started small wheelies

Yeah have fun paying 10k for a bike that won't be worth **** lol.. If you're going to stunt get a cheap bike.. it's just stupid IMO to rock a ******* brandnew bike. Cause once you wreck it.. It's worth half that if not more..

Re: Just started small wheelies

Im not trying to stunt it big like in your pic. Just slight controlled wheelies. But thanks for the heads up. I know no one means to crash. It will eventually happen.

My rear tire pressure is 36lbs. I have recently clutched it up in 2nd but not very high. Think this is hurting me?

Re: Just started small wheelies

I did my first wheelie!!! You laugh, but I am excited. 1st gear, friend guesstimated it to be about 2 1/2 feet. I didn't mouse trap it. It was real smooth. I rode it for maybe 2 seconds, but it felt like an eternity. Thanks for the advice guys.

Re: Just started small wheelies

on my r6 i bring up 1st gear at 2- 4k rpm wit a quick slip on the clutch , catch it wit the brake and ride away.

on 2nd you gotta be a little smoother with it. like foose said, cruis about 40 , 50, 60 , idc , whatever you wanna do. Just take your time and lag letting the clutch out a little (idk how to explain it, just take your time a little bit more) and it'll come right up. You should have a little more gear to play with so just have fun with it.

my bikes stock geared.. and dont have to bounce or anything. just make sure your putting your weight back towards the rear. Show the bike what you wanna do and it'll help you do it..

but +1 on the new bike. I'd wait till your paid off or almost. I'd hate to see another minty bike effed up.

I'll give ya a BIG +1 on that lol. I started out squidly as can be with no one to advise me on **** and didnt know about this site. Starting out with a minty 06 gsxr600 with all the stunt goodies and destroyed that thing My opinion at the time was that I didnt want someone elses beat up stunt bike coz who knows what could be wrong with it stupid mistake. pick up a beater f4i for 2k or 2500 and do work leave the pretty bike sitting in the garage until youre good enough for it.
