f4i cooling fan

what temp is the fan suppose to come on, mine come on around 112C i guess around 232F and thats seems kinda high also when it gets to that temp the coolant starts to drip from the overflow my bike never used to do that before
any thoughts?
also i remember seeing a thread about properly rewiring the fan and putting it on a manual switch but now i cant find it
i tried the search but still nothing
any help would be greatly appriciated

Re: f4i cooling fan

My fan used to come on at 224F. I made a switch so i can turn the fan on and off while im in the lot and leave the switch off on the streets and it kicks on normally. To wire the switch, Get a toggle switch from a parts store( a prewired one works the best IMO), run one side of the switch to a ground(the one i used is the one at the top of the radiator on the left side. Then the other wire from the switch you tap into the black wire which comes out of the temperature sending unit. There is 2 wires that come from the temperature sending unit. The black one is the one you tap into( I tapped into the wrong one first and blew the fuse). It is all on the left side of the radiator. taking the fairing off on the left side will make everything more visible to do it. I mounted my switch into the ram air cover by the left handle bar. That should cover everything feel free to pm me if needed and I can get pictures for you if you need it. and my bike stays at around 200 or less with the fan on in the lot now. And also the little bit of dripping is normal when hot or if your bike goes down when you pick the bike up it is normal for a lil bit of coolant to come out the overflow from being on its side.

Re: f4i cooling fan

I think it turns on at 105-108°C and turns off when it´s down at 100°C, so yours is little late, maybe you should test or replace the bimetal sensor on the lower left side of the radiator

Re: f4i cooling fan

your bike will need longer to warm up, it´s always good to put a switch inbetween so it doesn´t run when your bike is cold and you can switch the fan on when it´s getting hot.

It's not the best for your battery or stator life

The bikes don't give much charge at idle, they do their best at 4-5k rpm.. So when your sitting idleing you might be slowly draining your battery

I run mine on a switch, and just kick it on once the bike gets over 210f

the stock fan has a constant 12v, and the GROUND is the wire that is switched..

You just use a multimeter to check which wire is ground, and add a wire straight off a bolt on the frame, to a switch, then to the ground wire of the fan...

and I think f4i's stock come on at 230f.. At least mine and all my fiends come on between 228-230f. Which is perfectly fine for your bike. But I prefer to kepe mine around 200-220

not really, but by the time your fan comes on at 230, it gets to 335 sometimes 240 before it actually starts to cool if your running it hard

230f is perfectly fine for the bike, I just prefer to keep my fan on once I hit the parking lot, and I kick it off below 200-210 to save on battery life

but if you look at 10-20f not being much of a difference, then going from 230-250f shoudn't be much of a difference =P

Re: f4i cooling fan

Best way to rig the switch? I have mine rigged so it runs soon as the key turns on... ground connected to the thermo sens wire (yeah I suck at electrical)
