r6 cage impact=cracked head problems

just wonderin if anyone has figured out a good solution to not crack the head/break the motor mounts off the 03-05 r6. i looked into getting a tygershark cause i know they have the spring sliders on the cage. seems like a great idea for soaking up alot of impact but they dont make a cage for this bike. maybe im worrying too much about this but i have seen it happen on 2 r6's already. anyone try and make some spring sliders or anything?

Re: r6 cage impact=cracked head problems

Re: r6 cage impact=cracked head problems

the front motor mount is on such a thin part of the motor that any cage can brake it , i thought some on was making a cage that moved the contact point up higher on the frame but i can't remember who it was ...

something like that would be nice. i've been trying to get my hands on a set of tygersharks spring sliders and somehow put then them on my FI cage. tygershark wont sell them to me

Re: r6 cage impact=cracked head problems

i have made a few crash cages for r6's but i never made a jig , if you were closer and could bring me your bike i could make you one but thats no help for you right now ...

it's hard to tell from this picture but i made this one so the contact point was higher up on the frame , i use a thick plate that bolted to the motor mount but went up and sat against the frame with alot of gussets , feel free to have some one locally copy it if you like ..

it's an older model but the same concept would work for your bike

Re: r6 cage impact=cracked head problems

the front of that cage wraps around the front of the frame too , that helps keep the force of a crash away from the motor mount

Re: r6 cage impact=cracked head problems

this cage doesnt look real strong in the 1st place. the mounting points are almost in a straight line and i dont think the top left 1 is a main mount to anything
