03 600rr gas tank dent

I found a local seller for a matching colored gas tank fairing for my 03 600rr. What is the best way to dent these tanks? Does the tank have to be on the bike or can I dent it off the bike?

first you have to dent the actual gas tank, then put on the cover and mold it to the dent underneath. so, ON the bike!

Re: 03 600rr gas tank dent

when i had my RRs i took the cover off. beat the hell out of the tank with a deadblow hammer, put the cover back on, heated the **** out of it with a heat gun i bought for $12, and worked the cover down into the dent with alot of pressure/a towel to keep from burning my hands/and patience. if you have good paint on the tank cover and dont plan on putting grip over your dent then you might wanna make sure you dont get the cover to hot or else the paint will buble. i just put some "bedliner in a can" from autozone over mine. works great and looks good. hope that helps.
