Stupid Question: Logical Progression

So as of right now, I'm strictly "the basics" kinda guy. I can do standups, sitdowns (decently), scrape the tail... I can go somewhat slow, 15mph or so on stock gearing, and ride standups for miles... so my question is where should I go from here? What trick(s) should I go for next? I am incredibly motivated to start progressing once I get my body and bike ready again after my looped endo, and I'm gonna start searching out a "spot" instead of mobbing around on the streets constantly. Me and my buddy are pretty much at the same spot in stunting so I will have at least have one guy to progress with

I'm putting off getting a handbrake for now... I COULD get it but I'm afraid at this stage it will hold me back.

I'd start w/ idle... then coasters (both stand up and sit down). Then no throttle hand to no handers (stand up and sit down).

Then circles.

THEN get a handbrake. If you get one too soon you'll be all over it and forget about learning the basic progression of tricks. I knw people that can do slow ss and frog but cannot even do a regular coaster or no hander.

Just like the old Kyle Woods video... "we learn these tricks in order for a reason".

Re: Stupid Question: Logical Progression

I toyed with some coasters on my old bike and was getting decent with them but having the long period of not riding fucked me over... I've tried just once or twice to catch idle and i'm still too heavy on the brake. Thanks for the advice guys, I really really really want to hit circles by the end of the season, and I'm pretty quick to pick up stuff so hopefully I can reach my goal.

Re: Stupid Question: Logical Progression

how in the hell do you catch idle? I hit a lot for the first time ever today, put the idle to about 3k rpm and clutched her up... i was glancing at my rpm and noticed it was right around 2500-3k and i didn't even begin to feel the idle take... this is with stock gears.

Also, is there some trick to putting more weight on your legs? I like riding long wheelies too and am trying to find a way to put less stress on my forearms... and also for removing hand/hands down the road it would be useful to know.

Are you using your reg Idle cable or the Idle cable Mod?

this will make no difference at all in being able to catch idle....

the only thing that the 2nd cable mod does is it makes it easier and faster to adjust.... it really does not pull any different.

Damn... I was hoping that getting the other cable in there would help at least some, since (apparently) the stock idle cable ***** with the mixture while the second actually cracks the throttle plates... I guess I need to man up and practice some more But I can't do much lot riding right now due to my smoked-*** clutch (thanks alot previous owner)... if I clutch it up at 5 mph I can't get it up to bp until about 25mph, so by the time i slow the wheelie down I'm out of lot; hopefully my new clutch will solve my problem.

Question about gearing: will a 50 tooth on my f4i be an appreciable difference in the lot? I know it's possible to do everything on stock gearing but I'm to the point where I think gearing could help me some and why not make it easier on myself too haha

Question about coasters also: is there a trick to them? I'm just not very consistent, every 2 or 3 attempts I will roll one long as hell but sometime I barely start them before the front floats back down... didn't know if there was something to save it if the front end gets too far forward.

Re: Stupid Question: Logical Progression

something else i noticed was if i'm rolling with the idle at maybe 4k (for example)... both wheels on the ground, and i hit the foot brake, it brings the idle down to maybe 3500, hit it again and it comes down to 3000... it never really pulls itself back up, just keeps bogging farther and farther.

I didn't want to make a new thread for all my new questions but I think this one gets overlooked.

I learned on stock idle cable..... didn't make things work any different when I switched.

bring it behind BP(barely touching brake, @ 7-8 mph with stock gearing) then close the gas. If the bike drops then go farther past BP and close gas.keep doing this and you'll get the feel for idle.

for some reason I find it easiest to hit idle at @3500,any lower and you have to be real sensative w/ brake, any higher and you have to press the brake pretty hard. Also, on 2 wheels when you press the brake the bike should slow down, then when you release, bike should speed back up. I my experience adding the 2nd cable helped me hold idle much easier. I also noticed where you adjust the stock cable affects the strength of idle alot. I put mine at 1500, then adjust the 2nd cable.
