slowing it down help?

ok so i have been praticing for about a year now and i think what i was told along time ago has got me pointed in the wrong dirrection. So i know i can get it to balance point but not able to go beyond it well under control with the brake i hover it but i put slight presure on it and i come back down. only time i scrap ( i wouldn't call it a scrap more like a slam down on the bar) i'll clutch up from a 5 mph roll well foot over the brake but cant catch it and slams on the bar which results in hit the ground with my body! go figure.. so what im asking is when im coming up should i be on the brake slightly and give it more gas as i come up to balance and to go slightly beyond balance. come off the brake slowly? to scrape or is this all wrong?

you vary throttle/brake input... to scrape i normally get to balance point, hover my foot on the brake, give a slightly greater throttle input, go past the bp and hold myself up with the brake then let it float back.
