o-town and idle adjust help
Re: o-town and idle adjust help
tank denting can be done in many ways, i dont use bondo and mine look clean when i'm finished, get a big *** rubber mallet, a small ball peen hammer, a can of spray on truck bed liner and some newspaper thats about all you need. leave the cap in the tank to dent it but remove it forst and cut the splash gaurd right out of it

Re: o-town and idle adjust help
o town is a little further back.
you can definetly get that alot smoother with a ball peen hammer. def bondo to make it glassy smooth. then tech spec for grip. bed liner sucks in my opinion.
light taps. light taps.

i like the o town but i think this style fits me better...i like the look, its sexy
i do carbon fiber work so the plan is fairing filler with epoxy to smooth it out...it auto levels so thats better than bondo in my opinion..sand it smooth how i want it then rough it up with 120grit in prep for a carbon fiber overlay

Re: o-town and idle adjust help
yea bed liner sucks i think....in composite work i use this stuff called an airpad from airtech, basically its an uncured rubber with a prepreg carbonfiber backing it takes an autoclave to cure it fast but since i dont have it the way i use it in my application ill vacuum bag it and put it in my home made oven..the one you see in the background, bake it at 170 degrees...when the pre preg cures it will bond the rubber to the carbon fiber overlay on the tank...its sticky but doesnt leave any residue..kinda expensive but i think it will be very nice to have
Re: o-town and idle adjust help
couldnt get advice in time and once i started smashing i couldnt stop..it was very addictive heh, used a ball hammer to flatten out those wrinkles, i know if i do another tank it will come out ALOT better
either way i got the first layer of carbon fiber on so the next layer will be cherry...ill post up pictures tomorrow

Can't wait to see the outcome of this. Kind of a rough start, but we will see! Sounds like it could come out pretty cool. Isn't the carbon fiber and epoxy kinda slick though? Seems like you would want something that grips better.

Re: o-town and idle adjust help
i used another resin that bonds better to metal first with scraps of carbon fiber..its rough lookign and isnt a finished surface...next step ill cut foam to fill in where i couldnt hammer out those creases and epoxy those in place..sand until desided...then coat with another layer of carbon fiber...it wont have a glass finish like you usually see...
carbon fiber is fairly rough..kinda like that bed liner stuff if you dont put enough epoxy on....
