Rear brake practice techniques....

Im having a hard time getting my rear brake down. I always cover the rear brake on a wheelie but i almost always forget to use it, i just let off the gas and front end comes down. Are there any practicing techniques you guys have used to help? Thanks.

Re: Rear brake practice techniques....

you kinda have to be past the BP to need to use the brake. Just flirt with the BP and feather the brake to keep the front end under control. Pass BP a lil bit and lightly touch the brake to bring it back and pass it again and so on till you get smooth. I was gonna say Quad but OMR said it too.

Re: Rear brake practice techniques....

Prior to clutching em up put a little pressure on the brake and keep it there. This will help you to not forget about it. Then practice bringing down your wheelies with the brake not gas. Practice this 100 times and you should be good. Watch out for brake fade. Change your fluid to a higher level and or get stainless steel lines if you do start boiling your brake fluid.

Re: Rear brake practice techniques....

*** drag worked for me. Keep your brake foot over the brake and keep your other foot on the floor. Pop it all the way from a dead stop to BP. You probably wont hit BP the first bunch of times - took me 2 days I think to man up and do it. Eventually I started hitting the bar and not freakin out that I was too high. Once I got comfortable with where I'm supposed to be I started applying the brake before hitting the bar. From there go back to your sitdowns or staggered wheelies. To each his own but thats what worked for me after a whole summer of slamming wheelies down by throttle chop. Good luck.

Re: Rear brake practice techniques....

i heard some one on this site suggest doing a bunch of two wheel no handed o's for getting use to using the brake and even know it doesnt help you figure out where your balance point is it will get you use to using the rear brake...sounded like a good idea to me but i can't remember who said it

Re: Rear brake practice techniques....

haha ya i tried that no handed o's but you have to be able to hold them steady in order for it to make a difference, haha i couldnt get them the night i tried. havent tried them since.

jeez i need to find more guys to stunt with, none of my 2 rider friends have been out this week. going by yourself sucks, going by yourself when its really cold outdsife, even worse.

Jonathan the rear brake will just click one day and you'll get it.

Jeremy and I were at the 230th spot last week sunday. You down to stunt before 5:30pm? It gets cold and dark anytime after that.

+ 1 on both. It does just click one day out of nowhere. All part of the learning curve.
