Had an "OH SHIT" moment doing a stand-up
Had an "OH ****" moment doing a stand-up
Yep, this one made me clench my ******* quite a bit! So I had been hanging out all night, riding and all that. Its like 4am and I'm headed home...I'm dog tired, but the roads are pretty empty, so I decide to do a few stand-ups, just for practice to see how far I can go. So I do one in second...then I remembered a friend of mine yanking his up in 3rd going about 40, so I do the same thing..The first one, was pretty good. The second one, well....lets just say I found the balance point, if not past it, but not by choice. Not quite sure what happened, but it was like my glove got stock to the throttle or something. As it was coming up smoothly, my grip just wasn't right or sumting and next thing I know I had given it WAY more throttle that I wanted to. The bike just went from coming up smoothly to shooting straight up. By now I'm like
"AWW SHIIT!!!"""
But I wasn't sure of how high I was, so I didn't hit the brake. Instead I just held on, let of the throttle, and I think I might have pulled the clutch in, can't really remember. I just remember the bike floated for like 2 secs....then started coming down...By then I got back on the throttle to let it down smoothly....Thats when I realized I still have a lot more room to go on my stand-ups until I can maintain them at one speed. I mean, I just knew I was damn near looping it, but obviously I wasn't it..I think I just hit the bp on accident and didn't know it. So what did I do next? I stuck my knee in the seat and rocked one for about half a mile or so...:YEAH but it was hard to steer.....Can't wait to get out and practice when I'm well rested, now that I know I can bring it back more and be ok...

get it on video or get a pic so you can know how far back you are.. and slow it down man.. good way to **** yourself up.. i bit it at 50-60 mph before in a wheelie.. doesn't feel good man
Re: Had an "OH ****" moment doing a stand-up
Sammy moment? Hmmm, fill me in....whats that?
See thats just, I don't want to go fast, trust me! I want to slow it down....I'd love to be able to hold one at about 40 all day...but I just haven't mastered it...And on my 1k, it just seems to wanna GOOOOOO! I haven't gotten my 750 fixed yet (still waiting on my caking *** bro to get it together) but when I do..Im caging it and gonna learn everything I can on it. My boy has a 1K as well and he can stand that thing straight up at about 50 and just go. My bro does the same on his 750, w/curves and all...He doesn't even do it staggered. I'm like DAYUM!!!!! Any suggestions?

Man, that pic should be like the billboard for "oh ****" in stunting....The look on his face is priceless, even though I'm sure mine wasn't far from it...Man, that expression says it all!

LOL ^^^^
Back to the Thread.....
My 3 last "Oh **** " moments have all been from the same thing (I think) 2 happened at slow speeds 10 or 15 Mph ...and once at medium speed in 2nd...approx 35 or 40
They all were situations where My wheelie wanted to veer off sideways all of a sudden....FAST...like I had to brake just to get my front tire to the ground quick enough to steer the bike off the tilted axis it fell onto !!!
It was from Crossing over a variation (seam or pavement change) while running parallel with it (not crossing it straight on ...or perpendicular) But crossing it while travelling with it.... I've come to LEARN....the The Bike (the Nose) wants to Pull Hard to the side (whichever the pavement is higher) (I mean deviations as small as 1/2 inch...maybe 3/4inch !) scared the **** out of me !!!...
How do you guys who ride wheelies all day long and over various terrains....compensate for this ?? do you "read" it ahead of time and compensate with body english ? OR just correct for the wheelie AFTER the bike makes it's adjustment??? This **** has me nervous...

Re: Had an "OH ****" moment doing a stand-up
Well u better believe I will be looking for that BP now..man, it was crazy...espeically since I was AAAALLLLLLLL BBYYYYYYYYY MYYYYYYYY SEEELLLLLLELLLLLLFFFFFFFF! ( Thinking back to the song ol dude was singing on half baked...sorry). When it went back I was like "yep...this is it..its the big one...." lol...but I was cool, and I mean as soon as I touched down on the ground I clutched that bitch and brought it right back up. (jumped right back on that horse) and rode it for a minute...( had to get my confidence/nuts back right quick) put it down, put my knee in the seat and picked it up and rode it for a good 1/2 mile or so....than I realized I was too tired and better quit while I was ahead. Would have went back out the next day, but spent the day at the lake busting my waverunner cherry...had the time of my life and will be getting one of those soon as well.
Re: Had an "OH ****" moment doing a stand-up
You just felt the true force of engine brake. The higher you go in the gears, the less you have...........cover the RB! It sounds like you might hurt yourself soon if you don't get your brake control down soon. Good luck!
Re: Had an "OH ****" moment doing a stand-up
Actually I'm usually pretty good about covering and using my back brake. I think I hesitated b/c I was so tired, had been out all day in the sun, rode all night, and it was 4 am on my way home, not to mention I had only had about 3 hrs of sleep the prior night.
