First time stand-ups

Ok...I have been doing sit downs and have gotten the bike up pretty far and have reached the BP a few times but haven't mastered BP. I usually run out the gear which is fun but WTF? I wanna just roll long *** "slower" controlled wheelies. I want to try stand ups cause I will be able to see better and have more control over balancing it up high. I know I should just grow a pair and the stand ups feel very weird for me right now. Do most stunters adjust the clutch lever so it is in a more comfortable position while standing? I mean the way my clutch lever is now it is awkward to slip but I figured if I adjusted the lever angle closer to the ground it would be in a more natural position and maybe I could slip it up easier. Your thoughts?

id like to see what people say about this, i was thinking about doing the same thing and also adjusting my rear brake lever lower so its more comfortable while standing too (that way maybe ill actually start learning to use it lol)

Re: First time stand-ups

i know what your saying about the clutch, i never moved mine though, but after i put an easypull on i may have angled it down a little further. and i guess it is a little more comfortable but not really necessary. its just up to you. about the break i dont really feel you on that one. i am on the pedal at all times, thats like the most important part of doin a wheelie. just remember that brake is your lifeline. maybe you stand differently than i do.

Keep practicing is the best advice you can really get right now. Don't give up until you get it. Put in the hours and it will come.

i know i need to learn to use my break more but it seems like it has a high angle on it....im wear a 13 and its just not real comfortable when I try staggered stand ups to have my foot on the break, thats why I was thinking about adjusting the pedal down a little bit so it feels more natural

Re: First time stand-ups

Adjust your hand controls to your liking. There's no perfect placement for everyone. Ride wheelies and adjust. I keep my clutch rotated a little up higher and my hand brake is underneath. You will probably want to adjust your rear brake pedal and definitely your shifter for your stand ups. Accidentally knocking your bike out of gear or into another gear when you're in a wheelie is bad juju.

Learn stand ups. It's much easier to learn the BP that way.

Re: First time stand-ups

yeah i moved my clutch down when learning standups so it felt like i could hold on to the handle bar better while clutching...more of a comfort thing ..... once i got use to it, i realized i didn't need to hold the bar that tight anyway...but it did help me learn. so i say try it.

Re: First time stand-ups

I'd suggest you stagger. Standing on both front pegs puts you more in a leaned back position and puts more pressure on your arms. It could cause you to be a bit rough on the throttle as well because you're going to have most of your weight on the grips (like a spreader). Splitting your stand up still allows you to cover your rear brake with your right foot, but also puts you more in an upright position and alleviates a lot of stress on your arms. I feel like it's more comfortable. If you want to learn on the front pegs then do so. The staggered is easier.

Re: First time stand-ups

I'm in about the same place ..... and I'm a slow learner..(cause i'm old and frail...LOL).. so you can imagine the frustration... I've been working on Slow sitdowns and standups for about a month now.... and I'm about half way there.....

covering the RB....but only having to use it about 1 out of 4 times....I'd been doing sit down pow pows for 20 years ....so you can imagine how hard and wierd it was to start trying standups(staggered).....but after about 500 launches .....they are starting to feel a little more comfy.....
also I have my Idle set at 3000.... anyone think it should be higher maybe ?

One thing that I've found that helps me (cause I'm REALLY concentrating on slowing these things down ...getting them real tall....and using some RB....plus I'm still learning that side to side balance at those slow speeds) Anyways what helps me (I think) is launching them at 0 to 1 mph.... and snatching them up fast.... I think it's about the launch and getting it up before you've built up too much speed.... once I hit about 30 or 35 mph...I usually ease up and set it down (cause I know I'm just gonna be chasing it out from there) And slowly but surely ....I see improvement almost every practice session..(longer wheelies...slower wheelies...and taller wheelies...almost floating at idle sometimes).. but the improvements are in Such small incriments (like 3 practice sessions = 1% overall improvement) SO I believe With Patience...and steady practice.... I'll have something respectable by the end of summer.

Have a great one guys....Practice Practice practice...that's my
