Newbie looking for the balance point

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BsoyjCP3tg

Ok...this is a compilation of videos showing my latest wheelies. I know I am not at balance point in this video but I can now go just a bit higher as I have figured out it almost floats when I look through the windscreen and just lose sight of the road ahead. I will try to get a video update of that when I can but I am using a digital camera at this point to take these videos and it sux.

Anyway, I am now clutching it up in first and running it most of the way to redline. Got to work on shifting while I am up there I guess. I can also clutch it up in 2nd but that means more speed and potentially MORE damage.

You can see on the 4th pass here that I felt a bit too high and closed the throttle a bit sharply and sorta slammed back down. I don't like doing that but it's better than the alternative...LOOPING IT.

Re: Newbie looking for the balance point

Well im new myself. However, as far as bringing it down try and get used to covering your rear brake and when you feel ready to come down try and set it down with the rear brake and give a lil gas before you touch down.....should make for a smoother landing from what others have told me, and it helped me out a great deal.

I'll leave the rest for the pro's lol

good luck and stay safe

Re: Newbie looking for the balance point

story bout landing hard....I felt like I was goin back too far too fast so I let it down a little quick, I'm good with putting the gas back on so you don't hear the "clunk clunk" from the forks. (my forks suck) but I landed on this wrought iron truck pin or something and when I braked, my front wheel just slid. Got some scary headshake and nearly shat myself before I let off the brake and got control.

moral of the story....its a good thing to use the back brake to bring wheelies down. + bringing it down hard is a sucky option. Just use the back brake to end your wheelies early and go from there. Also, you know that your rear wheel has traction....but you never know what your front is gonna land in.

Re: Newbie looking for the balance point

Yeah, Its not like its a technique thing....just thought it would be a good way to get acquainted with the back brake + a warning about taking it down too hard. If I was on something with a more forward engine, like a gixxer, I'd have eaten pavement.

Just my , try it, if it works for ya, great, if not, don't do it.

I'm like a senile old man, my stories don't really have a point...I'm just lonely and sometimes wet myself.

Re: Newbie looking for the balance point

your smooth on throttle (except the last pass), that's the most important, now start using brake...=)

Re: Newbie looking for the balance point

Have you tried staggered stance, yet? Sit-downs always give you that "looping" feeling when you're first learning, even when you're far from looping. I'ld try staggered, it feels strange at first, but give it time. Try it staggered and also try to clutch it a little lower in the RPMs. The higher you are in RPMs, the more abrupt the throttle response is. Try giving the rear brake a little pressure as you clutch it, also. As you get to know the RB, it'll give you a better sense of security as you clutch to BP. Just be sure to cover the RB, it's your best friend! I'm not too much further along than you. Definetly still learning every day. If you want to see my wheelies, so you know where I'm at in the learning curve, check out "Righteous 1 progress clips". Practice is where it's at, bro. Practice, practice, practice. Good luck!

Re: Newbie looking for the balance point

Thanks dudes....here is my latest video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1NKz...de=user&search=

Haven't tried staggered really...I stood up once and it felt VERY weird so I didn't try much. I can clutch up 2nd gear and youtube has a video of that. I am getting there but it takes time and to my dismay...fork seals. I won't give up though...I'll get it to BP or die trying. I am doing a wheelie school on Wed so hopefully that will help. Please don't flame about going to the school....I figure it will be money well spent if it saves me just one crash or hospital visit.

Re: Newbie looking for the balance point

My reading comprehesion is up to par. From what I understand, you have a pro willing to teach you how to wheelie and for some reason your going to pass up this opprotunity.
And the fact that you asked not to be picked on for going to "wheelie school" just made me want to reiderate that "your hella gay".

TK - yeah im pretty sure they are talkin about me... and to re-ittereate what i have said on here and on NES multiple times:

No, i dont like to "Teach" people how to wheelie (as in run a wheelie school)... but i am MORE than happy to have you (and whoever) hang out as much as possible this summer to learn the ropes and i will be happy to give as many pointers and knowledge as i can... i know my roomate will be on the accelerated "riding with legion" learning curve all summer! LOL

Hope to see ya out TK, have fun at the school! you should come to the BBQ this weekend!

And get a dedicated STUNT BIKE!!!
