Stopping but not stalling
Stopping but not stalling
Any pointers or advice on stopping a wheelie and standing behind it besides the fact that i already know you have to pull in the handbrake and clutch at the same time. I can do merk steps, i just can't grasp the whole grabbing both handbrake and clutch. But anyway what i'm getting at is i wanna stop the wheelie and be able to jump back on without stalling. Any advice?
Re: Stopping but not stalling
lots of practice with using clutch and handbrake at the same time. practice going straight on ss and pulling in the cluch just a little bit to see how the bike reacts. do this at idle not at 30 mph
then just start using both together all the time. it took me only 1 or 2 nights to be able to stop when ever i wanted to

Re: Stopping but not stalling
yea i've played around with pulling in the clutch it just falls back on the 12 bar. When pulling both the levers do you guys use 2 seperate fingers like index finger on clutch lever and middle finger on handbrake or what? Or just grab both with your whole hand and wing it
Re: Stopping but not stalling
i always rock index on clutch, middle on hb. i have better control with my middle so i always keep it there.
you just have to get used to the middle finger. do some highway SS rocking index on clutch and middle on brake, get used to it that way for the feel of it. then in the parking lot you can park a SS, step off hte back and then put both fingers on and push the bike forward and get used to how much you need.
best thing i ever learned was both fingers at the same time. i started early so i wouldn't have problems switching over from only using 1 finger.

Re: Stopping but not stalling
excuse me while i use my squid tentacles to type this reply but what is SS? and im assuming the hand brake is a conversion for the rear brake to be moved to the bars???
Re: Stopping but not stalling
^^ ss= seat stander, hb= yep
i don't think you need a hb, if you can walk it against idle just pull in the clutch, you'll strong enough to keep it there...if not it will go to the bar...

Re: Stopping but not stalling
i guess it's just all in the way you use your left hand on the controls i'm sure i'll get it just wondering how other people did it and then on top of that jumping to spreaders, special k's and i couldn't imagine jumping to hair chair from back there
Re: Stopping but not stalling
Re: Stopping but not stalling
i tried that the other night and i can make the jump when my buddies are holding the bike but when i try it for real my toes always hit the tank about an inch short
Re: Stopping but not stalling
so how are you doing this? you ever put a bike on the bar with it at idle and tried to just "push" it forward and balance it moving without a handbrake? from the fact that you suggested that, i would say no cause it's not so easy without rocking a brake to balance it on the rear wheel
