could you still do all the technical ish with smaller gears? im thinkin goin -1 up front and goin +5 in the rear. or is it all just personal pref?

you should learn bp idle **** with stock sprockets then decide if you want a larger sprocket

and the width (520/530) has nothing to do with the sprocket size in teeth.
