F4i Front Axle Pegs ???

i'm looking to put front axle pegs on my f4i for my lovely wife to stand on during 2 up stuff. i was going to drill a 3/8 inch hole straight through the axle but i'm not sure if it will weaken the axle too much. it was suggested to my by a friend that i should drill and tap a 2 inch deep hole for a meaty bolt to attach the pegs. what are some of your suggestions?

any and all input is appreciated! :YEAH :YEAH

i've seen people bolt up a piece of metal to the bottom of the fork tubes where the two bolts hold the axle tight.

Isn't the axel hollow to begin with? I think only the bolt on one end is solid.

you are correct. i just didn't look at it close enough. i ended up drilling a 3/8" hole through the nutted side of the axle. then i used a piece of 10mm all thread to mount the pegs. i also used two regualr hex nuts jammed against each other to take up the space at the opening of the open end of the axle. we are practicing tomorrow. i'll let you guys know who they work. below are 2 pics.
