still cant figure out the standup.

Hey guys I desided to sign up when i saw the abundance of knowledge here about stunting.

Im relitively new at all this but i have figured out sitdowns pretty well, can ride first or pick up 2nd on the highway and ride for a nice distance.

Ive been attempting the stand up for awhile due to the obvious control factor and it looks to be a overall better way to attempt the wheelie. Ive done some searching here and they are saying do the staggerd stance. Well After some practiceing to no avail all i wound up with is some fast popping up wheelies and a cramped leg from being bent at that angle for so long.

what are my ways to attempt this? When i watch videos and pause them before they pick it up it they are standing up and leaning over the bars. Well this seems to be very hard to do and it feels extremely unstable.

Can anyone tell me what im trying wrong or not doing?
Thanks.

Re: still cant figure out the standup.

I am only just learning staggereds myself & i think the biggest mistake i was making at the beginning was i stayed in the staggered position too long b4 i launched the wheelie, adjusting my left foot, adjusting my throttle hand.adjusting my hair e.t.c.I find now by jumping to the staggered position & clutching up straight away sorted me.The day after my first attempts i couldnt walk right,my left leg was killing me.I m still only at this height at moment,im getting there.

staggered feels awkward at first, but you'll love it after you get used to it...just practice, it will click and you'll say "ytf coudn't I do this before..."

keep at it, cuz in stunting you will loose hopes alot of times and think you can never do it, but if you do not persist you never will...

Re: still cant figure out the standup.

how should my front forks be adjusted? Im considering powering 2nd up to learn standups instead of clutching.. I notice when i try to bounce the suspension in it barely moves, the bike is new, and I dont know the adjustment.. Should I soften it so itll travel more and lift easier?

Your suspension settings are negligible right now. Work on clutching, it's all about practice. Don't expect to be able to go out there and just automatically wheelie, it takes a long time for some people. Powering up is a LOT less predictable than the clutching method. Besides once you learn consistent clutch, it will open more doors for you for other things.

Hope it helps

Re: still cant figure out the standup.

when your doing the standup, do you clinch the bike with your legs(gripping it tightly) It seems in theory this would ease some of the rocky points where your not sitting on the bike before the launch. I always to go attempt the launch and i feel like im barely holding on to the bike and the force of the launch throws my body arround. So naturally it seems like you would be come one with the bike again similar to a sitdown if you squeeze your legs against it atleast for the launch?

BTW what is the deal with the squid? ive been seeing this and i dont know what it means

Practice in first gear in a parking lot and use the clutch.

Re: still cant figure out the standup.

my legs always feel weak when im hovering the bike. im on a 1000rr so ill pactice it in 2nd because 1st is pretty violent comared to my 600rr.

has anyone tried popping a wheelie in a sitdown and standing up then? my friend started doing it then and it seeems to be working pretty good for him Ive been trying but when i stand it starts to fall.. i guess im not geting it up high enough to start to stand.

i would practice 1st but im a 061000rr its not like my 600rr. its a violent snap even with a slight ammount of gas. Ill try 2nd since its smooth.

You will still be safer than chasing a 2nd gear power wheelie on a 1000rr

I did sitdowns for about 4 months before even trying a stagered... Just grab your ***** and do it. Thats all it took for me. I just went out one day and said to myself you are doing this and within 30 minutes I was riding stagered for miles.
