Automotive Oil vs. Motorcycle Oil

This topic gets beat to death and while I tried to search for something to confirm facts from myth I couldn't find a lot here. Just everybody putting in their thoughts with no proof behind it. So here is for everybody that wants to know if car oil is just as good as motorcycle oil. Kinda long read, but worth it IMO. Here it is: http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/oiltest1.htm

Summary: Car oil is just as good to use as motorcycle oil. motorcycle oil is all marketing.

Re: Automotive Oil vs. Motorcycle Oil

I'm not gonna explain the differences in engine oil cause everyone will be like - it's a stunt bike it doesn't matter.... which is pretty much true considering ppl here will swap a motor instead of changing plugs.

right. i have a motor 42,000 on it lots of draggracing & stunting with it it was constantly on rev limiter, i used to ride highways wheelies at 13k rpm for ever too. only used honda gold synthetic still runs fine, stock clutch and it never had a valve adj. either
its stupid to try and save 10 bucks by using regular oil

Re: Automotive Oil vs. Motorcycle Oil

Synthetic is fine so long as theres no Moly in it. The problem with car oil is this..... They put friction modifiers in it. Which is fine for a car when the motor ans trans are separate. Those modifiers will eat up your clutch. You'll have slipping issues and all kinds of other ****!

its cause its a Honda:YEAH not positive, but is the honda oil a semi synthetic? I run the yamalube 4-R (20-50 semi synth) works great, I even use yamaha oem filters.
