Making a shorty pipe?
Hey im about to chop my yosh pipe and make it a shorty. I have seen several guys ride with them (the make it yourself kind) but want to make sure there is nothing im missing. I have the impression that you can just cut out a section of the muffler, and re weld it together. Might have to fabricate a bracket, but is that about it or are there some tips i need to know?
Re: Making a shorty pipe?
most yosh pipes have riveted end caps, drill out the rivets on the outlet end take of the cap cut to length and reriver the end cap back on. they are usually the same all the way through, ( no baffle plates) so you can cut where ever you want
Re: Making a shorty pipe?
Yea, they are super easy to make. I actually have an extra Jardine RT-1 shorty and they are really easy to make. Drill out the rivets and pull the endcap off, BE SURE TO MEASURE THE CORE. Some of the pipes have a core that is longer than the outside sleeve so you have to cut them accordingly. If it is flush with the sleeve go to the bandsaw; if the core is a little longer and cut them to match or the endcap will never fit right.
Re: Making a shorty pipe?
I wouldn't use a hacksaw. Measure around , marking it in several spots then connect the marks with a piece of masking tape then use a dremel and slowly follow around the tapeline to get a straight, clean cut and the tape protects any burrs from scratching the pipe. Good luck bro, just take your time.
