Fork setups...Enough already!!!
Re: Fork setups...Enough already!!!
on my bike I'm pretty sure they had the spring out and the needle thing stays in.......then they measure, get everything set right, put the spring in(on mine they had to use a machine to compress it on my 954 front end with the 1.1 springs, but the F4i we did with no tools like that needed.
Re: Fork setups...Enough already!!!
yea but nags has been trying some new stuff for him so you know when your doing a new trick you tend to put it down hard alot till you get it on lock
Re: Fork setups...Enough already!!!
Even coming down from like a coaster.. I'm powering into it and it's still coming down hard.. hell unloading out of the truck its coming down harder than normal lol
Re: Fork setups...Enough already!!!
hahahhaa, check your airchamber then! and the comp settings!
i had lots of fun messing with the fork this week especially since it turned out so good!
i'm having a hard time adapting to highspeed endo's again, since ive been practicing short runup only..

Re: Fork setups...Enough already!!!
What kind of Head bearings are you Honda riderz use? Or doesnt anyone bother changning these? I heard that tapered roller bearings is more stable than the conventional stock. True or not. Going to try these bearings this summer and find out. New ones allready installed! Are the 929 or 954 fittted with these kind of bearings stock? I read that some models are and some aint
Re: Fork setups...Enough already!!!
aaait, that was a bit of a read but allot of fun
nice to read about stuff im trying to figure out for myself for some time now
i made a huge story here so ill sum it up in short and if you feel like readin, eeh, read on :P
i prefer supercorsa in front
stock frontend cbr600f2, std-fluid (5w i gues, after reading this topic im gonna try 10w next)
forks lowered into the triple-clamps about 1"
pre-comp set 2/3 in from weakest(i weigh 65kg so for most people it should be harder or even stiffer springs)
db-bars make for more control
nissinpads are the way to go
wp-damper with home-made brackets
i weigh 65kg's and am 1,8m high
i ride a '92 cbr600 f2 with stock front-end, i keep it well-maintained, ive fitted the taperd headstock bearings, its way easier to get hold of these as there always in stock in the bikeshops over here, and they last much longer then the original ones, stock fork-oil(i think 5w is normal)
my std. rotors were worn down badly after a year of riding and fitting a **** brand of pads, and now i have braking wave disks + nisin pads, nisin pads forever now, maybe 10euros extra but well worth it, my rotors hardly wear and the pads last forever
im no endo-god but my record is 210 feet @ 55 mph aproach (end of third -1+17)
i've tried db-bars and clipons and various setups....
i rode with db-bars for a year or so and hardly got wobbles starting at 50mph, but anything over that would bring wobbles allong(on smooth surface) since i fitted a damper(wp, 70mm range, 32 settings, usualy on setting 6 counting up from the weakest setting, when on 32 i can't go around bends anymore, i think up to 20 is still rideable, anything over is just rediculus, with home-made bracket from old clip-on and a piece of steel welded to the frame (the part where the tophalf of the fairing fits to the frame)) never had a wobble, not ever, no matter what i do
i had 180's to the left on lock and to the right i had to try a few times but i would get it....then i got into wheely-combos for a bit and decided to give clipons a go, took the std ones and did the upside-down inverted thing and its not bad at all BUT, no matter what i tried, 180s wouldnt go, i was turning hard and leaning and ****, couldnt get past 90 (gay)....
and with the db-bars i used to be able to steer the whole bike to one side for a bit, i'd push the subframe to one side and then the whole bike would move over to that side....but to keep it there id have to keep the subframe at the same position wich is heavy with the db-bars but do-able, and ****** imposible with the clipons i found out, i had the clips turned sort of inbetween stock setting and flat(in a straight line), so then i turned the clips to almost flat wich ment i sat a little more to the front and a few extra cm leveridge and all of a sudden steering was back
still heavier but it was back, it could be done, im switching over to db bars shortly cos i like the hardcore 180's and the big steering stoppies like jason from AM, thats my ambition
i know im never going to get there but thats what im aiming for :P not to low eh
i started to notice things were different when i switched from db to clips cos my db sits quite low so the forks were set lower for the bars to fit, and i noticed that the lower i set the forks, the more stable it would be, but picking it up would be harder, and since it can get ****** cold here i left it about 1cm over the top-yoke(triple clamp)
now with the clips i have the forks 3cm over the top-yoke cos the clips are above the top-yoke, it picks up easier and with the damper stability is still mega, i tried different springsettings to, first i tried the weakest setting and pickup was easier but anoyingly more "pogo", then hardest setting(wich pre-compresses the spring about 2cm) much less pogo but harder pickup, i had to "ease it up" so to speak, now i have 2 lines showing on the compression-screw, 2/3 turned it, seems to be best compromise for me
i run supercorsa when i can but im broke as **** nowadays so i run whatever i can get a hold of, a friend hooked me up with a continental contiforce max, its not bad, but not near as good as the supercorsa
i have also learned that when the bike tends to go 1 way all the time its time to check your wheelbearings, one of them is nearly shot and both need replacing, if it hardly steers at all and sorta clicks while steering, the headstock bearing needs replacing, buy skf-bearings whenever you can, they last forever
so eehm, thats all i can think of for now, if you want i can post pics later

Re: Fork setups...Enough already!!!
ow yeah 1 more thing, i know and have known some people who always talk about stuntin and are always changing settings on there bikes but hardly practice
even tho it matters, bike setup is about 30% of the trick, 70% is rider....thats what i think annyway so im gonna keep rockin my old *** f2
not to compare myself to him but look at criziz and what he can do with that beat up cb500 with a single non-floating-disk, dahm!

Nice words Race... you know we both loooooove endo's !! Only thing is, I can't make pics from my clip ons right now, my parents took the camera with them on holiday
to bad...

to bad...
Re: Fork setups...Enough already!!!
To make a long story short, I always used to rock DB bars for endo's, and I always liked it... but so far with my new clip-on set-up, I can rock them pretty good as well...

That's how mine look like...

first learn how to roll endo's!!!!! then when you get good at it, (no i dont mean 100ft) worry about the setup. you have to have the technique down before you start on the technics..
Re: Fork setups...Enough already!!!
ok homies. If I tighten my forks real hard. ppl say that I wouldnt be able 2 ride it on the street like highways goin like 100 n ****??? why is that??? will I like flip over when I hit a bump or somethin???

turned it in a little bit, and still rock stock oil :YEAH
