heavy bike wheelies

Just wondering if there are any suggestions on getting a heavy bikes front end up. Had an old 600 that would lift the front wheel easily recently bought a newer bike with way more power but a little heavier and can only get the front wheel maybe a foot off the ground for a short time frame. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Re: heavy bike wheelies

use the clutch, or gear the bike down. Should lift easily with clutch.

Use the clutch. If you are using it, more RPM.

Re: heavy bike wheelies

1999 ninja zx-9r. its not that i can't wheelie it. the front end will come up but it doesn't go much higher than maybe a foot off the ground and it won't carry any distance. bike weighs in at 468 lbs plus my 230+. bike is modified two brothers exhaust, stage one jet kit, adjustable timing rotor, kleen air mod performed, -1 front sprocket.

Re: heavy bike wheelies

old zx9's are well heavy, sort the rear sprocket, and rev the fu(k out of it ,

centre of gravity is very high on those zx9's... so when you do get it up.. watch out that it dont flip

Re: heavy bike wheelies

Run nitrous. or put helium in the tires. If that doesn't work take a caliper and a rotor off the front. If that still doesn't work drill holes in the forks to lighten them.

Re: heavy bike wheelies

that doesn't make any sense. it sounds like you should be trying to keep that **** DOWN.

Re: heavy bike wheelies

haven't been using the clutch to lift just powering them up. using on-off-on method to get it up. when it comes up it desn't go that high then it is down on ground again. I had zx600r that I could put right up to the balance point using both ethods and ride for as long as I wanted to. which doesn't seem to make sense why I can't get this one up to the balance point considering it has way more power.

Re: heavy bike wheelies

zx-9r should be real easy, just use the clutch. drive walking pace. flip the throttle and let the clutch go. if it doesn't, give it more throttle.

Re: heavy bike wheelies

Hey ZX9RACER

The hwole on-off-on method sucks with these bikes. I have an 02 and used to try that ****, either it comes flying up or it doesnt come up, if your gonna continue this though try it from slower speeds, somewhere around 15mph should get it to flick right up for you. If this aint workin out, then your only other choice is clutchin it!

Re: heavy bike wheelies

Also, check your body posture, on these bikes you gotta be a lil further back in your seat (if doin sitdowns) and you have to be sittin more straight up. If your crouched over the tank fully they do not like to come up. Try stand-ups, they are alot easier on these bikes. Just drop one foot back (preferably left, so right can cover your brake) 2nd gear about 4000 rpm's and just give it a lil and rock back smoothly. Thats how I learned'em!

Re: heavy bike wheelies

what do you mean by that was no way near the balance point?
That zx600r had good power range was geared down -1f +2 rear threw up easily using both methods.
