Newbie practicing wheelies. Any advice
Newbie practicing wheelies. Any advice
Here I am practicing 1st gear sitdowns and standups. Any advice about how I should be standing? Any advice at all would be helpful.
Here is the links to my clips. I just started 2 weeks ago. This is what i have so far.

for your own benefit, hurry and delete those links,, so many things wrong, don't know where to start, but honestly, u're going to loop it very very soon.. go to help and how to, and search, there is plenty of how to wheelie threads.. start there..
Re: Newbie practicing wheelies. Any advice
Before all the bashing starts... I will say that you need some more seat time. Your a little scared of that throttle, and choppy. You are getting it up great for a newbie, but thats the easy part, now you have to hold it there. Most likely you are going to flip it before you figure out how to do that. The second one came up pretty decent, now learn to ride it out some. Then start getting higher and higher until you get to BP. Oh yeah and cover that rear brake.
or You could just trade me the bike for a stunted out sixxer... That way you don't have to worry about scratching up those shinny plastics..:YEAH

that 2nd vid, the sit down, you were at bp, and close to looping.. it's not about how high you get it right now, it's about being smooth and keepin it up longer, and the height will come

Re: Newbie practicing wheelies. Any advice
I can 1st gear power wheelie and ride them pretty far but they're pretty low. I just started to learn how to clutch my bike up so I'm a little shaky still. I was reading the complete guide to learning how to wheelie and it said that I should stand on the back peg and cover the rear brake instead of learning how to do it sitdown first. Should i be doing sitdowns first?? They are way easier then stand-ups.
Re: Newbie practicing wheelies. Any advice
I haven't seen the vids, but it sounds like you don't have enough time behind the handle bars to be stunting. But, since you are probably hell bent about doing it read up on it. I didn't have anyone to teach me, so I had to teach myself but before I even tried 1 wheelie I read about it over and over and over on the internet and figured out the best way. Don't be stupid and just go out there and start shooting for the sky.
1) Start of doing sit downs only, and to be honest don't do any sitdowns under 20 mph. The reason why I say this is b/c sit downs wobble easily and unless you know how to control it, don't. Also, since you'll be shooting for rev limiter to learn throttle control, at 50mph there is a decent amount of engine brake that if you screw up and go to high, the bike will bring you down. Trust me, everyone says cover the back brake, but unless you have a 50 or a quad to stunt on... then you'll forget you even have a right foot in a wheelie. TRY and focus on tapping the rear brake, but for now just keep working on throttle control.
2) In your sit downs, try not to let your windscreen go above your line of site. You should be able to look over the windscreen perfectly, but anything higher and you'll be too high for now. YOu need to crawl before you start walking.
3) Practice only in 1st gear for now, you need to establish a smooth throttle hand. The best way to bring up a wheelie (I feel) when first learning is roll on the throttle real slow, once you get to around 20-25mph twist the throttle back hard and at the same time you need to slip the clutch in and out as fast as you can with only your index finger. So when you slip the clutch, pull it back with your index finger, let the clutch lever hit your middle knuckle, and then let out the clutch as fast as possible.
Recap: Roll at 20, twist throttle, slip clutch as fast as possible, do not let windscreen go over your line of site!
These are the basics... stick to them and those plastics might stay minty!

Re: Newbie practicing wheelies. Any advice
i don't know about that... learn staggered, clutch, just like you are.. as soon as the bike comes up, apply some rear brake pressure... you can have steady pressure on there, and overpower it with gas, you'll learn bp, learn not to be choppy, and learn and trust rear brake, if you keep some pressure on there, even if you go behind bp, the second you let off that throttle, u're already on the brake so it's comin down

+1 ON THAT..... But all in all baby steps bro... your not going to be a pro overnight.. so don't make your bike look like stunt bike overnight either

+1 good sound advice right here i learned staggered first too
Re: Newbie practicing wheelies. Any advice
Really? You all learned staggered first? Damn, maybe I was just starting out slow. Sit downs felt 1000 times better to me, so I started there. But hey, learn the way that feels comfortable to you. If sit downs scare you, try staggered. And if both scare you then sack up sally and push yourself. For me though, I tried staggered and sit downs were much more comfortable and I could control them more. I practiced sitdowns until I road them in first gear for more than a football field. After that, I practiced stand ups everyday after that.
Re: Newbie practicing wheelies. Any advice
P.S. If you are going to practice on that bike.....
1) Cage
2) Strip all plastics
3) Optional... a 12 bar for those "just in case" events!
Seriously, you'll thank me everyday the day you wreck and all you broke was a clip on or something. Invest in the cage and strip off the plastics!!

Re: Newbie practicing wheelies. Any advice
standing feels awkward to me...
I can do sitdowns in first (power wheelies) and ride them out for awhile...
Trying now to get the clutching in second thing down...
but I cant seem to get the timing right...
I[ just started about 3 weeks ago...
