Gearing for a 954 and/or R1

Not sure if I've posted this in the right spot... Haven't been on hear for atleast a year+.

First question for street stunting... A 954 or R1? And the questions below. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've never touched my gearing, always stock... But I hear that it helps out on smoothing out wheelies etc. Secondly, I've never let air out of the rear tire either... I've always ran normal psi. I love bustin' done the highway at mad speeds especially when I wake up 5 minutes before work and have to do a 20min drive in 3 minutes haha. But my main concern is smoothing out the control thing without losing too much top end. Highway wheelies bring the biggest rush to me.

So all in all... Does the rear tire thing really help out that much... I still want to lean corners and ****... so should I even mess with that?? Plus it seems like it's 'cheating' in a way?? I dunno. Does a low pressure tire effect high speed riding?

AnD finally... Gearing that'll help without killing my top end. How many down... How many up... And what chain conversion 520-525-530??

Two things that sound new to me are:

Engine Breaking??? Which I guess comes with bigger sprockets?

HB (handbrake I think) What the hell do those two things help on??

www.dCizzle.com ~dc Thanks!!

The 954 is a better stunt bike than the r1 all day long. It's best to leave your gearing stock to learn with, then when you get better and slow your wheelies down and start twelving you can think about gearing.Dropping the tire pressure is really only gonna help you for slow wheelies and dropping it to far definately will affect handling, especialy cornering.Don't do a chain conversion if your going to stunt,I believe the 954 has a 530 chain stock and the sprockets last longer with the bigger chain and it is stronger.Engine breaking is always there, you just get more with bigger sprockets.Get on the throttle in first gear hard and then let off,the bike will be slowing down pretty quickly without any brake, thats engine breaking.See how that could help you in a wheelie?A hanbrake helps for doing stunts where your foot isn't covering the rear break. But you do not need one to start out with, best to learn the foot brake and engine braking first then when you get good with that and want to expand your tricks get one. Also stop looking at the camera when you endo your going to crash into something!

Hey paul... Do you know anyone sportin' the Kawi 636's... '05 or newer???
I told myself I'd never drop below a liter bike since I've been on 'em for 6+ years now... But local site reviews rate it solid as a street performer... And I see a chunk of people on here with them... But would you take the 929/954 over this upcoming 636cc ???

Mate, I got a 954 I love it, I would take it any day over any R1.

I run a 16/60 on mine it's **** for Highway does about 190km/h redline 6th gear. I would leave it as a 530 (stock).

+1 for the tyre advise it will make a big difference to your slow stuff.

Good luck go TEAM HONDA!

a couple buddies of mine ride 636's and they are a blast. still hella fast and they are a great stuntbike, only drawback is the plastic gas tank cover on the 05 and newer I think. could be 04 and newer, but it doesn't really allow you to do a good dent for tank ****.

I don't know anyone with 05 or newer 636.But i do know someone with on 03and 04 636.I know alot of people will disagree but I actually like my 929 better, maybe its because of all the time I have spent on it.But I like having the power of the bigger bike and you can gear it pretty good and still be able to ride on the highway without revvin your ***** off.And you can't beat the honda for reliability and durability. But the 636 is a good stuntbike though, its small and lightweight has a pretty strong motor for a 600 and seems pretty hard to stall out on a wheelie even with stock gearing. And the throttle is not to touchy.Personal prefference I guess.

Re: Gearing for a 954 and/or R1

Get the 954! You won't be disappointed, the bike is a wheelie monster. My wife has a brand new 600rr and as far as size the 54 feels a lot like it. Power wise there is no comparison! The 54 has so much more torque. I dropped a tooth in the front and the bike feels completely different.

As far as tire pressure I dropped the rear to 28 psi. The front is about the same psi. For me this is about the perfect number for street and riding wheelies. It doesn't feel squirrly in the corners at all and is really stable whether I'm going fast or real slow while on the rear wheel.

Being that your already on the R1 I think you will be disappointed if you go with anything smaller. I could never go back to a smaller bike.

Don't get the R1. It's OK, but you can't argue with statistics.

Re: Gearing for a 954 and/or R1

just put -1 front. stock pressure. you can do almost anything with that.

get a cage. it saves the crank end from bending.
