Question Wheelie throttle control

???when you slip the clutch and the front end reaches the highpoint, do you roll off the throttle immediatley? Or do you let it start climbing then adjust. My problem is i roll off and it goes down hard. I can't seem to find that right amount, consistantly. I'm consistantly reaching the bp i think. Oh and also, when I hit the bp, will the throttle be less responsive allowing throttle control?

You tell me if the throttle will be less responsive if you're consistantly hitting the bp. If you're not BS'ing, it sounds like you're very close to having it down. Go out and practice a couple hours for a couple days and come back and teach everyone what you've learned.

Re: Wheelie throttle control

you want to get it up to bp clutching it.when clutching it you crack the throttle and let off slightly.now your at bp and already off the throttle not completly.you give it alittle gas to bring you back up to bp or past bp and then tap the rear brake.depending on your sprocket size engine brake will help out.Pratice enough and you'll get it

Re: Wheelie throttle control

Try hitting longer spots to get distance down. It doesn't matter if you wind the bike out for a while. I learned on I95 at 5am before traffic hit because my wheelies was garbage. The longer you go the more comfortable you will get riding wheelies. Over time, you will go higher and slower because you will be closer to the BP. Then you will get to the point of clutching it up to the BP and rocking out at 5mph. Trying to do slow wheelies without having any distance will only frustrate you in the beginning. I was rocking out a season or two before I could hit the lot correctly.

Keep doing the same thing over and over again and you will get it. This foundation of clutch/brake/throttle control is the most important. If you get it down now you will jump around on that thing sooner than you think. It will just click one day and you will be on top of the world.

Good luck man

It takes lots of practice to learn. You'll never get good if you only practice 2 times a week.

Re: Wheelie throttle control

fiddies can be helpful learning tools as well....

if you get on one and just **** around and chicken wing the throttle (chop chop chop the throttle that is) you'll never learn anything... you'll have fun, but won't learn.

if you use it to teach you the basics of rear brake control, and actually try to be smooth on the throttle, you'll pick up things on the streetbike much easier...

i know it wasn't exactly what you were asking, but I was just trying to suggest a way to learn things in a slightly safer setting.

Re: Wheelie throttle control

when you clutch it up dont think its just gonna jump to the BP...clutch it and when you start to get good at it u will feel if u need to roll on or let off...pratice clutching it up below the BP and and rolling into the BP...and when you start to feel at an idle keep it steady and use ur body english to go back or forward...how i learned...pratice and ride them out miles

Couldn't have said it better, that's what I do. Where in tampa do you live/practice? I'm always looking for another person to go ride with.

Re: Wheelie throttle control

I'm over near the new tampa area. I got a sweet little road in brandon that me and my buddy go to practice. Never really had a problem, except somedays, guys go out there to do drifting in there cars, but for the most part all is good. we usually all get together on saturday nights and practice till the sun comes up or our bodies can't take anymore abuse. PM me if you want to go tear it up tomorrow.

Re: Wheelie throttle control

people can explain it on here to you until they are blue in the face, but its just something that you have to experience and get the feel for and figure out for yourself.

Re: Wheelie throttle control

:YEAH You guys were right about everything. Started practicing staggered standups after the advice the other day. After a few Ohh!@#$ I began to go higher and higher. Then started clutchin it up and hitting rear brake to bring it back down. Third times a charm in this case, went out yesterday and rocked my very first real standup. Rocked it about 75yrds. A little choppy at first but im getting there thanks to all the help on Stuntlife. Seriously, thanks to all that replied. No got get smoother on the throttle control.
