RPM for SSers

Heres my question. I got slow SSers on my -2 +14 geared f4i without a hand brake, but they look choppy due to the on/off the throttle nature of the trick. I can do them nice and real smooth, but only at like 12,000+RPM's. If I ballance them at 6,000 they still look choppy because or the same throttle manipulation. My boy can rock them smooth at 6,000 RPM but he is only geared -2 +5 and has his idle set a little higher (1,000-1,250). Is my 6,000 RPM unsteadyness due to my deep gearing or do I need to turn my idle up to 1,000-1,250 rpm? My idle is set at around 750 or 800 rpm.

leave your idle down and just work on the throttle control. it your gearing. i was riding a +7 and it was so much smoother than my -2 +10

OK cool. I'm smooth as hell on the throttle, but can't keep it from rocking until 12,000 RPM. Second I let off the tiniest bit the bike starts moving. I thought it was the gearing difference, but Scott kept telling me it was the lower idle.

Re: RPM for SSers

people can talk all the throttle chop jokes they want but...

i agree with the post above....

if you want smoothness then just take some time to get used to it, and practice it... you can be smooth no matter what trick, what gearing... all it takes are time, and effort.

good luck

Re: RPM for SSers

Im having the same problem. -1 +10 on my 636 and my seatstanders are too choppy. Im trying to do combo's and for the life of me if i move my throttle hand a hair the bike chops and i cant combo. I'm thinking I should just go faster in the seatstander?

Re: RPM for SSers

Either lock your arms and legs straight, or push your knees against the tank. Make your body one with the bike sort of.

I lock my legs and arms. Like I said I can get them smoothas gals, but not under 12,000 rpm's.

Re: RPM for SSers

my question is who looks at there gauges while wheeling??? just practice you will get there

any problems go ask korno he kills it without a handbrake or use to. but he might be retired and fat and lazy. probably has high cholesterol

That is what you said. I said, I think it is the gearing and you said, turn up your idle, why do you have it so low?

I'm guessing at the RPM's. My gauges weren't even on the bike. I'm screaming the bike to get it to be smooth though.

Re: RPM for SSers

maybe 20mph of wind resistance helps @ 12k rpm. not much wind resistance @ 10mph you know.

I said its the gearing difference and the fact that you were not getting the bike up to bp right away, you were choppy at first so by the time you get it smoothed out you are up at high rpms

Re: RPM for SSers

Pick the pace up a little....Meaning rpm's.....and make sure you're chain is properly adjusted. If your chain is loose, you can't be rock steady no matter what you do. Also check your rear suspension. Stiffen it up a bit so the bike isn't sloppy. Tighten the bike up then tighten up your throttle hand....in that order.

Chain is tight and I'm at 12,000 rpm's + rear shock is set up as stiff as it will go. I think I just need to practice a couple more days.

My chains tight too but i have'nt touched the rear shock. Full compression, full rebound, full preload right? Thx mang.
