Freeway wheelies?
Freeway wheelies?
I just started doing 2nd gear freeway wheelies on my f4i. What pressure do you guys run your tires at? It seems likes it always wants to float to the right a lil bit. Im doing sitdowns right now clutching them up at like 45 in second is there anyway to do them in 3rd sitting down
Re: Freeway wheelies?
if your stock 3rd will be hard..2nd is fine for highway if your stock geared..psi about 18-22 and if its floating right its either your body not postioned right,or your wheels not alined or the roads curved..if it does it on all roads its either you or a misaligned wheel
Re: Freeway wheelies?
When I did my stand up the other day, the only good one I managed to do, I noticed I drifted to the left lane.
Im running at 25psi, I heard between 20-30 was good. Maybe I should drop it to 20?

Re: Freeway wheelies?
Well i think it is just my positioning cause sometime i hit it just perfect and i can just sit there with it up. I can only ride them like a half mile though before i lose the BP i think i need to use less gas control and more rear brake usage
Re: Freeway wheelies?
Yeah I always ran about 25 psi. on the highway. If you go to one side it's your body position. Get used to moving around on the bike while you have it up a little. Your gonna need that the better you get.
Also try turning the bars with your shoulders the opposite way of the way you wanna lean or turn (JUST MAKE SURE THEY ARE STRAIGHT WHEN YOU LAND THE WHEEL BACK DOWN! )
That will help you use your body position to control the bike.
Try keeping your throttle in one spot and cover the brake. Later start slightly riding the brake to make it come down so you get use to the feel of the rear brake.
After you get that down then work on keeping the bike at the BP with the throttle "locked" and ride the brake to adjust your height.
Yeah I know I had alot to say....Too much caffeine

As i was doing them more last night i was getting used to leaning over and moving around a little. So when you guys are riding mile long wheelies you usually keep the throttle at one point and then everytime it comes up to far you just give the rear brake a little tap? I need more practice with that brake seems like it falls to fast when i tap it must be hitting it to hard i just need more practice

Try not to "tap" the brake. Just ease on it smoothly. Always do everything as smooth as possible. Any choppiness is gonna tranfer through the bike and cause wobbles and that can make you freak i your just gettin started.
You'll get it in no time. 99% of learning is getting it in your head that you are in control of the bike.
Re: Freeway wheelies?
i engine brake all my highway standups, and if it gets squirrely i'll pull it back behind balance point and press on the brake till the bike calms down then drop it below balance point and speed up again..
I run like 20psi in lots and don't change it for the highway, but I rock like 30 in my 636 which i ride wheelies on the highway with also...

Re: Freeway wheelies?
Maybe a dumd *** question but how can you enging brake when your in a wheelie? Thanks revditup for breaking down the rear brake usage better i was "tapping" it now that i just ease on to it seems alot better

You really can engine brake in a wheelie. If your rpms are high and you let off the gas the engine & trans makes the bike slow down just like if you were reving 1st gear and let off it will slow the bike down fast.
I wouldn't rely on engine brake to bring you back down tho especially with stock gearing at speed & if you are still learnin. Stick with learnin the rear brake until it's 2nd nature.
Fhl is right (that the gayest avitar I've ever seen by the way
) but I think if you should learn to always be in control you won't have to worry about the luck factor so much. Get the brake first then work on practicing engine brake.
