stoppies.. what am i doing wrong...
not sure if im even doing it wrong, but I can't roll it much further than this.... started getting a lot higher near end of today and a bit faster and did go further than this video, but most of the time the back end turns round on me... some times i feel i can go double that distance if it werent for back end turning roudn!!
do i need a steering damper??
heres the vid:
Righht click save as
and heres a pic to show i was getting higher at end of day..

also off topic but i nearly got that plate :YEAH

Re: stoppies.. what am i doing wrong...
having the back end swing around on you just happens sometimes,
you'll see even the best of the best rolling out a mean azz stoppie, and the bike doesnt always want to stay straight, but they make it stay straight.
when it starts to get crooked i'm assuming you are tweaking the bars and using a little bit of body english to try and straighten it out, but the problem is you are tweaking the bars the wrong way and leaning the wrong way. its confusing as hell, but if you think about it, it makes perfect sense, turn the wheel to the right, it will swing to the right. turn to the left, it will swing to the left. this takes a while to conquer...

Re: stoppies.. what am i doing wrong...
u can get a lil higher , looks lke ur still a lil to low.. but im not that good at them either but from videos and other people i know that roll long ones, they are definetly higher up like another 3-5" would be good
Re: stoppies.. what am i doing wrong...
on the sub of stoppies what causes the front brakes not to have the power to do a stoppie, the handbrake is still strong and the calpr looks good, would it just be new pads and reblead
Re: stoppies.. what am i doing wrong...
well the vfr750 is not the lightest bike out there and that might play alittle role in it but i'm sure it can be done on one just come in about 30 to 35 mph look forward and ease into the brakes if it doesnt come up just ease in a lil harder and so onits all about seat time and in most cases with endos quite a bit of wrecking at leaste i did
Re: stoppies.. what am i doing wrong...
HEy Sparky, see you progressing good, nice job! To prevent rear from steering your *** around look forward, lock your arms, grab the tank with your knees, that way your keep the bike aligned and more stable - you practically use your body as a steering dampner...
Re: stoppies.. what am i doing wrong...
I agree with Bruno....
Keep your head up looking foward, that keeps you focused on the feeling of balance. Lock your elbows and use you shoulder to steer when you need it. If you go into it with your elbows locked there is less chance of starting off crooked too.
Bill D always has his locked and you know he's rollin 1000' +
Just my
also, Until you get the hang of it stay under 45mph (don't know the Km??) You can practice rolling slow and high until you get a dampner. It's easy to end up "tank slappin" above 45.
If you still have your clip ons in the stock location, loosen them and turn them out straight more like MX bars than tighten them back up. That'll help you have more control over the steering input.

Re: stoppies.. what am i doing wrong...
Thanks for the advice everyone. I will make sure to lock my arms more next time as well as looking ahead more (weird cos I only do it when there's a camera in front of me
)

I can never tell how high a stoppie is.. I had NO idea I was getting them that high at all.. quite worrying really haha.. I just try to keep it smooth and if it starts wobbling/rear wheel swings round then I let off the brake gently to let the wheel back down.
As for speed (we use MPH in the Uk too
) I think I'm going about 40ish.. some of the later ones maybe about 50. Funny cos I've never rolled them at anything over 20mph before that day...!! Just once the confidence starts increasing so does the speed
I'll definetly put all your advice into practice next time out and hopefully I'll have some longer stoppies on lock with some vids to show off!
Cheers.

: Re: stoppies.. what am i doing wrong...
Not yet.. going to do it before the weekend though, along with cutting down the front brake lever, raising the rear brake lever a bit (heard this helps) and possibly fitting a braided rear line too... might even have a red upper fairing to go on
I can't really ride at the minute anyway as today I burnt my clutch finger!! I strongly reccomend that you don't ever touch a drill bit after drilling a few holes in brickwork
it hurts to bend the finger and has blistered up too

Re: stoppies.. what am i doing wrong...
My yellow is in one piece with no (known) cracks or breaks, it only has some scuffs on the corner pieces... If I get this red one I'll check the condition of the yellow one and let you know... gotta get this red one first, they are very rare here in the UK and seem to sell for silly money when they become available so it's hard to get one here too
Re: stoppies.. what am i doing wrong...
Been out this evening for some practice.. tried to keep my arms locked and look ahead more... **** me what a difference.... not sure I got any further or not but they felt better, higher and most were straighter... I was getting same sort of distance but from slower speed.. and main thing is I felt a LOT more confident doing them.. so much so that I was going out on the streets doing them everywhere
never tried em' on the streets before.. damn fun stopping past cars at 40mph!
Will get some more video at the weekend.
