Merk Steps!

Merk steps-when you guys jump back on into a seat-stander---do you just push the bars forward and as soon as you hop on the seat--tap the handbrake to compensate the weight change? I stuck out a few of these this weekend but i also stalled out a few which sucked because i got thrown in front of the bike. It seems like pushing the bike quicker (running faster behind it) helps but i just want to know how you guys are timing the handbrake into the stunt--

And what about merking into a frog or spreader?

thanks again for all advice....

-Alvin

Re: Merk Steps!

If you push it forward, jump on, and it comes back, then you didnt push it far enough forward. Turn ur idle down, its not a handbrake trick.

Re: Merk Steps!

Yep, turn the idle dow LOW... clutch up run behing and push forward on the bars while running. It looks like you already got the right form. Jump up and give it some gas... The key is to rock idle waaaay low. Almost no idle advance.:YEAH

You can do them on stock gearing.

That's not what you gotta worry about, it's the bar in shins that sucks.

Re: Merk Steps!

I got a round bar for now. I might try a few of these (if I can find my ballz) before I put the FI bar on.

I actually got it right my first try ever, I also had a 1:00 bar at the time. But I have looped a few hundred since then. Does it even count as looping in that trick?

It doesnt matter. As long as the idle has the bike going slow enough that you can walk behind it. Dirt bike bars make it easier though, cuz their height.

Re: Merk Steps!

I just started doing seatstander 12's and handbrake stuff a few days ago and the way I was doing the Merk was clutching up a sit down left foot on ground catching it with the handbrake and just stepping off the back of the bike, start running, push the bars forward, look down at the tail and jump. It was'nt really hard at all--getting back on the bike without stalling was the challenging part but i was using handbrake to help bring the nose down to jump back on the seat. I'll try no brake this week and just push the bike forward and jump.

Re: Merk Steps!

so let me get this straight, start sitdown and when you jump off and run behind it...push the bike forward and DON'T use the brake at all?

Re: Merk Steps!

yea... NO handbreak needed, just grow some ***** and jump back on

did it first try no problem, and doin merk to spreader no HB is easy too

oh, and scraping ss is not a hb trick either

if you need help being able to jump around try sitdown to ss first, its really easy once you ball up and you get a good sense of being able to manuver around the bike
