Re: 600rr idle mod

Best dollar for dollar mod you can do.

I used another f4i cable on the f4i and the 954 (it's same for all the late model hondas). The f4i cable is just long enough to peek out the side... next time I'm gonna get the old 900rr cable cause it's a little longer.

All it is... is instead of having a fixed positive stop on your throttle, your replacing that w/ the adjustable cable so it'll actually be adjusting the throttle and not the idle valves or whatever the fock they are. So when you turn the cable it increases actual throttle position and holds it there.

Now instead of 5 turns on the cable, it's 1.

Re: 600rr idle mod

i just picked up another stock 600rr air/fuel mix screw at the local honda shop for like $16. some peeps think 900rr cable will work but its the wrong thread size by just a little bit.

I cut the adjustment rod about halfway down the threads using a dremel and then knocked the burr off for a smooth thread. just like what kj954 said, take the stock throttle butterfly stop out (small bolt w/ nut on it) and replace it with the cable. i found a it to be a TOTAL b i t c h to install in the throttle body tho. i had to take the whole TB assembly off the head to get enough room behind to screw it in but maybe i just s u c k ...

Once it was installed it works pro, best mod for the money i think especially with the 600rr's

Re: 600rr idle mod

just use the stock cable and put a 15 cent bolt in the stock location to the minimum height.....cheaper and you'll never use the stock one again......also do a search I think someone put pictures up on here if I remember right???

If not let me know, I'll give you my cell number and wlak you through it....its cake once the throttle bodies are up

i remember someone posting pictures but it was on an F4i..... i just didnt know what was different cuase i remember reading that the idle only went up to like 2300 on the rr's

one day we were gonna do it to my F4 but when we went to go do it, the way it works from the factory is the same as if the mod was already done (because of the carbs)

the way the F4i mod is, should be identical to the RR.......its just a little gold colored set screw that stops the throttle bodies from turning back.....if you see those pics, you got it.....super easy............I've never messed with carbs on a streetbike so I would bet it would be different..........the newer 900RR's had idle screws that matched fine....thats whats on mine, F2/F3 idle screws also work real well

f u k i gotta find the link to the f4i one so i know what you're talking about. i won't have a problem getting the bike apart, and i'll know it once i see it. just that a write up or pics always helps i think. this will be the next mod i do.

OK......I'm in a good mood today and not in a hurry for anything so here goes.....shortened version assuming you know how to pull your bike apart and put it back together blind folded like me

pull your plastic and metal tank up, loosen the screws holding the throttle bodies down and pull the throttle bodies up, between the 2nd and third throttle body, where the throttle cables attach to a round "wheel" there is a set screw, gold in color that pushes against a flat area of the "wheel" the throttle cables turn.......remove that set screw and screw your idle cable in where the set screw was. When done, the idle screw, when turned, will push the flat area and turn the throttle bodies open as if you were twisting the throttle.......you're done, route the idle cable where you want, I would recommend the left side air duct of the frame......when full fairing I cut a 1/2 groove in the side panels that connect the tank to the upper.....the idle screw sat perfect in it......and now SFed, it just hangs out of the airduct.

Good luck and trust me, its easier to adjust and adjust faster and smoother. Enjoy.

Re: 600rr idle mod

haha ya its a total **** to install. after that ^^ you gotta tear the airbox down, remove the ECU, upper injectors, move a lot of wiring around, and then finally muscle that TB off ... after the adjustment screw is in its time to try and find all the bolts and screws and put it all back together without it lookin like Frankenstein

not completly off, just have to lift it up a couple of inches because the threaded hole you have to screw the cable into is right up against the head. to get the cable in there you need more room, you'll see what im talkin about when you look at yours

Re: 600rr idle mod

If you cut some threads off of the cable you do not have to even touch the throttle bodies...

on both my 954s and the f4i I managed to get the cable in there with out moving the tb

ya i didnt have to mess with the TB's on my buddies F4i when puttin the cable in but on the 600RR's you seem to have to. I cut more than HALF of the threads off my 600RR cable and there was still no way in hell i was gonna have enough room. everything is totally crammed on this damn bike ...
