I'm not wealthy enough to be a true 1911 fan but I wouldn't worry much about buying a Taurus if that's what you like. They stand behind their products and will take care of you if you have a problem. You might want to add the Sig Revolution to your list-similar to a Kimber but its several hundred
cheaper.

Re: 1911 looking to buy! Advice on what you have

From what I've read on the 1911 forums, everyone loves the Kimbers. I myself don't have that kinda cash. I bought a Rock Island Armory. It has quite a following in the 1911 world. $375 and it's gone bang every time I've pulled the trigger.

I have a Kimber and they are real nice, but I would also like to get a Detonics. They are very nice as well. Just my 2 cents.

Peace Justin

I had a springfield years ago and built a race gun with it, extended guide rod, triger, spring, conpensator ??
I liked it. If wilson customs still makes them that was the **** back in the day. For competition i think in 38 super ??
Lots of parts for these guns and fun to build up !

I have a Kimber Custom II that I brought brand new for 650. Its the lower end but its excellent quality and very accurate. You may find some people giving them bad reviews but many are because Kimber used to use an external extractor but they switched back in internal. Also Kimber builds to tight tolerances so you have to keep em clean.

If you can find a good used Colt. Then you have a 1911 ! keep a eye out a gun shows, Yard sales etc ask the old man if he has anything sometimes they wont bring it out unless you ask ! spread the word many of us older guys are thinning out our collection. Hey if you find a Chinese made Norinco 1911 Buy it thet are great! Good luck

My dad bought me a Colt, Gold Cup National Match for my 21st birthday. I've had no problems with it at all. Very nice gun, but very expensive too.

Kimber custom II all the way. That gun is the sickest 1911 variant out there, next to the Kimber ICQB, which was made for the Marine Special Forces. When you are asked to make custom guns for the newest Special Forces group in the armed services, I think you are pretty special. Go with Kimber, shell out the extra dough.

S&W and Springfields reputations precedes them...u wont be disapointed

Kimber has a great history with the 1911 style pistols as well, my friends dad carries a officer style one and swears by it.

Taurus...I have not heard so many good things about...simply they shoot and are somewhat cheaper than other brands but have heard of problems with them stove piping (not the 1911 but with other autos)

Check out sigs 1911 another very very nice (but pricey) gun.

IMPO the 1911 is not the best carry gun, I would go with a glock personally for a conceiled carry

I have heard springfields are pretty beast as well, If anything, go with either a Springfield or a Kimber. Can't go wrong with either. Go for an "Operator" type series if you go Sprinfield

Build your own, I have a custom built one and it is sweet.

Go with Wilson Combat parts they are the best out there, and use an Essex frame and slide they are really nice too. I only have an Essex frame, my slide is off a Military Issue Colt.
