Heh, I love my AK, but I would probably love a FAL more. Better accuracy and for longer distance.... Thats where the .308 shines over the AK rd.

Re: just starting my collection

Oh yea, .308 I assume? Not sure if they made that in .223...

I checked and they do, but I still assumes its .308. I love that rifle. Not sure if I'd get the P or the LTR...

Or just get a Tikka t3 and call it a day

9mm do not **** as far as stopping power. the high end self defense loads are nearly on par with the .40, and what matters most is shot placement and number of shots on target anyway. you can get back on target quicker with a 9 and they carry more ammo. BTW...23c...you lose velocity and therefore stopping power by having a comped barrel. you also run the risk of burning yourself, and blinding yourself in a nightime scenario. do not I repeat do not get a comped barrel for self defense!

you're right about the bullet diamter, but that's it. 7.62X39's generally come with 120-150 grain bullets and .308's are usually around 150-180 grain. not to mention the .308 is firing that heavier bullet about 1000fps faster than the 7.62X39...the performance is not the same

You're REALLY missing the point while trying to correct everyone here. Of course the performance isn't the exact same. It's 2 differant rds. with many differant reasons for the conception of each round. I'm not going to get into the ballistics of it, because I already know the differance. However 1) a .308 is not going to kill anyone anymore then a 7.62 russian will and 2) for the average joe its going to destroy everything just as much as much as the .308 will. The russian round won't EVER run groups half as tight as the .308 will nor will it penetrate ballistics gel as deep, but if you take a peice of steel plate and shoot one side with .308 (or hell, even the larger '06) and the other with the 7.62 russian there will be a little bit of differance but not much. That was the point of when I said 'respectivley.'

So yes, if I had to hit a target a few hundred yards out and had to make sure it was dead, then I'd choose the .308 hands down. But to bring it down to the redneck level, the 7.62x39 cost half as much the 7.62nato, so shoot twice and have almost twice the performance for the same price In a nutshell, the russian round will fvck **** up just as much as .308. And before you say thats not the point of shooting, does anyone really by an Ak with the intent of putting it on a bench?

I wasn't talking about accuracy

if you shot 150g bullets from both a .308 and a 7.62 X 39, at a watermelon, a head or an arm... the watermelon and the head are going to pop bigger and be exploded more with the .308, and the arm is going to be left with more tissue damage from the .308 because of the increased velocity, the air it compresses in front of it, and the shock waves it sends out when it impacts.

do you think a .22LR makes **** explode just as much as a .22 mag?
or a .380 just as much as a 9mm?

You still miss the point. Re-read. For the average joe and for the most part are key words. If I blow up a water melon with my AK I won't care that its in 10 peices opposed to 12. I love .308 more then almost any other round do to it's versatility and performance.

So to end this your right there is a performance differance. But for the avg. joe which I would say about everybody one here minus a select few are, the differance is nominal.

Re: just starting my collection

wasn't a fight man, just discussion

another thing about the 9mm vs. 40 debate.... the .40 is definately the way to go if you're in a state or agency that limits your mag capacity, but if you can have full cap mags, you get more stored energy out of a pistol the same size chambered in 9mm

what about high cap 45's? i think 14 rnds of 45 is about the best thing ive ever seen. and i didn't have a compensated barrel on my 23c. nor would i have ever put one on. 9mm sucks simply because i have seen too many cases where someone has unloaded half the damn clip in someone who was on some serious meth amphedamines and they didn't go down easy at all and were very inclined to get up until an officer showed up and dropped them with one 45 round.

well 14rd .45's are only available in full size guns like 1911's and I think c11x was looking for a subcompact. It's always going to be easier to keep a 9mm on target during rapid firing, especially when you're talking poly framed sub/compacts

haha, ok, you got me there, but then what's the purpose of having holes in the slide? to let dust and lint in?

must've been a golden .45 bullet! or he just shot him in the head and the person before just dumped 9mm rounds into the body and/or limbs. the quickest take down is with a central nervous sytem hit(brain, spine) and your best chance of that is to get off as many rapidly fired accurate shots in the shortest amount of time possible.
