remove import duty

Hey guys, long time no see

Someone off here told me to get USA goods marked as 'warranty returns' and its worked on 3 occations, only last time the seller had some wierd consience or something and wouldnt do it, so I managed to get the package market as a gift, putting its insurance value as $3k and i got hit with £481 import duty

Customs say that import duty is to balance out the value of UK goods with imports, so I rang customs and told them the goods in this package werent mine, i was doing a service job to them and theyd be going out the country soon, they sent me a very basic declearation to sign, then a week later all the fee's were dropped and the package was delivered straight to me.

So if anyone ever gets hit with import duty, just call customs and explain your providing a service and not buying goods.

Keep up the good work

Re: remove import duty

Bloody hell you wooden believe it ANT is back !!! ( sorry i couldnt help the pun) Hows you doing ?
Its not a great idea to say they are not yours and they will be leaving the country again. We do a bit of export here at work and if you say that they quite often want proof of export, which is a whole lot of paper work and if you cant get proof and can get charged with tax avaision ! Proof of export means you need to give then a registered VAT number from abroad to who they are going too.

Re: remove import duty

Hey guys, its great to speak to you again. I was just hoping this info might help someone out.

Vandal - Yeah your right but if its a one off it can get you out of a bind. I told them i was a new biz trying to get some work and i didnt know how to deal with customs, they were very nice after that.

CSL - Warranty Returns has served me well on 3 occasions, so thank man, but this time the vendor wouldnt do it, so I got it posted to a geezer in the states and then out to me. I figured warranty returns would look odd coming from a house, so i chanced it with 'Gift' and Bang! £500 notes please! **** that...

Does this mean ant is back?
I keep looking out for a local spot to use, ive still got the bug. Yeah id Love to come back, but i just got sick of driving home with my only bike smashed to bits, sure id start more basic next time.

Anyway, when am I gonna be watching you guys on Motors TV instead of the French shows?
